How did this person obtain my IP Address? Details included. Any thoughts?

Hey guys, something happened recently that I found interesting. Someone on a private messaging website obtained my IP Address by private messaging with me, and gave it. It doesn't bother me since I do use a VPN, but it got me thinking. How did this person obtain my IP Address? Any thoughts?

The website functions upon Adobe Flash Player. It hasn't got SSL encryption, it's HTTP. The user is a standard user on the site, not an admin or someone with privelages. All private messages are stored as flash cookies locally for everyone of course. Can anyone think of any methods they might have used? Thanks!

EDIT: They never gave me any kind of link to click on. Also, no images were sent between us. Text only.
Were there any embedded images in their PM? It's trivial to log IPs through images.

None. In fact, they never gave me any kind of link. Just direct text-only PMs. That's what confuses me.
I mean maybe the service is P2P and he sniffed the packets but id never be sure without knowing the service.

You checked if any of your data got leaked? Other website could have been compromised, they may contain your IP aswell.
I sometimes come around and poke a few threads before leaving for a few months again.

The website is chatango.com incase you want to test it. It's just a simple Flash based private messaging site. Warning though, there's a bunch of weebs and shit on there. You've most likely have seen chatrooms embedded from the site on streaming websites like Putlocker before.

Good luck though, I wasn't expecting anyone here to shine some light on this, it's a mind boggler. If you're able to obtain someone's IP Address with just text messages, I'd take my hat off to you. It's gonna gnaw at me if I don't find out how this guy did it.
