Quick Feedback Regarding Coding Sections

Just wanted to post some quick feedback about something that really... grinds my gears.

The coding sections on here are mostly for people to learn and for others to help people learn.

So why is it that when you ask a question, and somebody helps you learn something regarding coding, you decide to edit your thread so nobody knows what you asked in the first place?

Editing the thread removes the contents of your question, and means the next person who has a similar issue won't be able to find their answer by searching.

Many people do this and that's what grinds my gears. I just wanted to express my thoughts on that.

The thread that sparked this feedback/rant.
Nowadays? I'm just here for the nostalgia.
Yeah I agree, I hate people who do this. Or people who think their little PHP or HTML question is worthy of moving to PMs with.

They do that because they want to seem more superior than everyone else, knowing answers to all the questions. If you make 10k a month from your ebook, you just can't have something like that around. It will show everyone how less of an intelligent person you claim to be.

Just my 2 cents.
Very true. I agree.

If the section would be perfect; people would share their solutions and then lock it. Without editing it out.

It applies to all 'learning' sections (tech, coding, graphics...).
Easy solution is if you are going to reply/help be sure to quote the OP :) then they cant delete what they originally wrote because it will still exist in the quote.

I've blocked every person that has reached out via PM instead of posting their code.

Use the market if you want to keep it private. Use the coding section if you want help.
Editing out contents of threads is a general problem across the entire forum. Whether it be sales threads, help in coding, or other threads people just seem to edit out the contents when they don't need the thread anymore. Although the Help Docs do not say this is against the rules, I know Staff has been giving verbal and perhaps even actual warnings for those who do it.

Well I know rule suggestions are not allowed but this is something I'd love to see become a rule. It affects the quality of almost every single section. I've only noticed it the most in the coding sections.

Glad to hear that staff do give out warnings over it though.

Noticed a lot of this and I barely use the sections. Good points made.
Its my first time on seeing those thing but it really grinds my gear. Its okay when it was done on a sales thread but not on a questioning type topic. I don't know why they are doing that. I hope they stop on doing that.
Im guessing its a ego thing, If people see I need to ask questions my credibility is not as valid.
I'm just as guilty as anyone else who's posted question threads within the coding section. But, to be honest, it really has become more of a common annoyance than it used to be, specifically within the C++ and CLI subforums.

For all of the newcomers, coding newbs or whatever, looking up questions and coming across threads only to find that the original question is nowhere to be found is a burden in itself. Especially so if what you're searching for isn't relatively often debated or even hardly ever mentioned. It's always been like that and I doubt it'll ever change, so hard-to-find information will likely always be hard to find. :/

This certainly seems to be a problem that exists throughout the forum and not just in the coding sections. This is definitely useful feedback - hopefully enough people can see this and get the message to not keep on editing threads after their questions have been answered. May also be interesting to develop some sort of Help thread in coding sections where questions can constantly be asked and answered, and then someone can create some sort of Index that helps pin point certain questions so new users have an easier time finding their question through this Index instead of recreating old threads when they can't find the help they are looking for.

Now that paid stickies are widely available at an affordable price, stickies now hold no meaning. That includes help desks that are only stickied because they're paid for to be stickied. (Not referenced for support on that OP's side. The topics mentioned in that thread are semi-relative with this separate issue.)

Not to mention, such an addition already exists and has existed since board members were able to pay to get their shit stickied. There were a few genuinely helpful stickies a few years ago but nowadays those that were held accountable to fit the old definition of "high quality" back then have literally nothing to conform to by today's member's expectations.

I do agree it is present across the board, though. However, like I've said: it's never changed nor slowed down so don't get your hopes up. Old/OG help desk method:

1) visit VB.NET section
2) post help desk thread
3) wait for questions, post answers to the first few on the first page
4) never post another answer again (past the second page, no one looks past the second page) and reap the benefits of having a thread locked with 2,000 replies, mostly asking all the same questions

I hate this but when its in the marketplace and people edit the thread to sell something new and you have posts from the old sale and its all so damn confusing
