EDIT feature Limited

(Oct 19, 2017 02:39 PM)Legitimately Wrote:  That's the problem. It's mostly the marketplace sellers that are abusing the feature.

How did you figure that out lol? It's actually quite the opposite, it's true some of the threads are related to selling stuff but most are old content that has nothing to do with Marketplace and people want to "hide" what they used to post hence edit the fuck out of it.

Not a fan of this though, I change thread design a lot, testing stuff and whatnot. Also sometimes freshing it up, now we're stuck and we cant edit it further. However, considering how it affected everything site-wise, I guess we'll have to live with it.

I was going to list all of my previous signals, that's now impossible after 90 days. I guess I'll have to come up with a system to still show the previous signals somehow, maybe implementing it in the site could work (embed an image and update the image on the host server)

No? Quote the main thread and copy the contents. If it's closed open it (doesn't bump, quote then re-close)
More work? Yes, impossible no.
Sad to see users that have never abused the feature lose it because of the minority. I have a feeling this may possibly encourage cross-posting within the marketplace.

Well, customers constantly ask if the product still works and some sellers including myself like to update it every month to say it works as of "this month" to avoid some emails/PMs.

But I guess it isn't that important.

So the previous signal is not in the first post, pointless.

I don't think this will stop abuse completely, it's still possible to upload a thread design on your webhost and keep editing it after the 90 days have passed.

I see this hurting those who are writing tutorials, sales threads, or something to that extent but something has to be done. It really is a shame that people didn't heed your warnings and instead continued with the abuse.

What will be the solution for marketplace seller changes in price/terms/whatever? Close the old thread and create a new one? Is it allowed?

Repkills won't fix the problem though. People have been getting banned everyday for the past few months for edit abuse and still people keep doing it.

If it's not the exact same content yes, but the easiest solution is just creating an OP which doesn't have to be edited, only closed if not active anymore.

That's a sales technique, lol. You could very well do it in posts.

Good point he should just limit them make it extreme like 20 day
Definitely the worst solution to the problem.

Nobody reads through all the pages of a topic.

Any option to be able to PM staff members in case editing is necessary, like sales threads?

Because being locked out of your own sales thread or written tutorial after 90 days is going to make people (at least me) far less inclined to actively post anything that's in depth.

Host a dynamic image and update it monthly. Or host it on a service and change the image but keep it the same name. Issue resolved.

Not really. I mean, limiting edits is better than banning edits altogether.

This really hurts a lot of members that do try to make a positive influence on the site, maybe even go as far as to discourage them. But if it has to be done, it has to be done.
