Quote:The French government is considering setting the minimum age for sexual consent following a controversial decision by a jury to spare a man accused of raping an 11-year-old girl. The verdict has sparked a public outcry and calls to revise the law.
The bill, if adopted, will set a benchmark in French law on sexual violence, as it will for the first time define the age limit under which any sexual intercourse with a minor is legally considered rape.

Not really
It's not like the bill will ever go through anyway so the people of France don't need to be worried about this news

i think thats alright! If a 13 year old wants to have sex they should be allowed to.
I know i wanted to when i was 13, and did.
The law shouldnt determine who can consent. It should be based on sexual maturity.
btw its 12 in mexico and non existent in a lot of other countries.

i dont think you know what the word pedo means.
being attracted to sexually mature teens is not pedophilia.

A child can be sexually mature but not mentally ready to have sex so that would be a problem if the law was based on sexual maturity

Sorry but that's a terrible analogy, and I don't think being horny means you're ready for sex.

being horny and able to reproduce means you're ready for sex. the ability to consent.. i can agree thats a mental thing but not everybody matures mentally at the same time.
Girls mature mentally exceptionally faster than boys. When i was 16 i had this 14 year old fuck buddy neighbor and she was so ready bro.
i speak not only from experience but just plain old nature and science.
While 13/14 may be too young for some, others are at not only the sexual maturity of a 16 year old but mentally mature as well.

I believe the ability to consent plays a significant role in being ready for sex or not. There can be early bloomers who are too young to know what theyre getting into.
I don't really feel like starting a whole debate about this, all I really wanted to say is that I'm convinced basing the law on sexual maturity will cause problems because it's something that's not the same for every person

Yeah. The whole point of laws is to create general rules, and courts can work out the details. Basing the law on sexual maturity would mean there should be some medical test that ad-hoc decided the 'legal age' for every individual person or some shit like that.
Not to mention many different morals in cultures. Like that Papua New Guinean tribe where to become mature you have to drink the semen of older male figures.

damn id love to live in that tribe
I say keep it the same, at least it puts a line in the sand, with the age of consent at 13, it would bring far more problems than actually solve.
Say hello to my little friend.
