That's awesome. I'd love for this site to be mobile-friendly.
Is everything subject to change? For example, will userbars possibly change from their standard 136x42 dimensions?

I second this. It would be nice having a mobile hackforums, and I think everyone needs to just chill out. I suppose this change Omni, and I think everyone else will too in time. Just ignore any decent and just do you, people will get over it.

hi mr fbi
For what it's worth, I browse HF on my iPhone quite a bit and I never have navigation issues. If anything, I think the site looks great on mobile as it is right now.
Just curious, what do the tabs have to do with mobile friendliness? Is it a scaling thing? Or are the tabs directly influencing Google's rating? I'm not trying to argue your point, I'm just trying to understand how you want to accomplish this as I'm not familiar with all of the seo aspects. When you recently experimented with the drop-down menu in the top left corner (which is a common feature among mobile sites), I personally didn't like it at all. It just felt.. plain and generic (I know it was a test, but still). Then when I tried it on the desktop version, it felt like I was browsing a blown up version of a mobile site (why should mobile features be seen on desktop?).
I'm all for being mobile friendly, and I agree that some changes do need to be implemented, but from my own user experience, I'm perfectly happy the way things are when I browse the site from my mobile device. If anything, this site has one of the best universal designs that work well on both desktop and mobile. Most other sites would just have a totally different looking style due to the scaling (at least from what I've seen).
I guess you could argue that I'm just used to navigating the site on my phone with the way it is, but I've attached a screenshot below of how it looks while using Google Chrome for iPhone for you to see yourself. I did not zoom in or anything, I just genuinely think the site looks really clean and easy to navigate. But hey, if you want to make it even better, then please do! Just thought I'd let ya know.
Thanks for the update.

Quote:Yes, I know but please note how the tabs work. They load the entire index page then hide the content not under the tab.
I suppose the issue is that.

I’d agree with you on that, i’ve been browsing from my phone only for the past few days with no problems.

Can't you disable tabs as default and allow registered members to enable them in User CP (meaning that guests such as Google see the tabs as disabled)?

Very good idea, also very possible.

Well, being I primarily use a tablet, or desktop. The tabs were a godsend for organization.
Hope a better solution can be come up with honestly.
I thought browser and resolution detection could be utilized for this, can't myBB be a dynamic platform like WP or other CMS systems?

That does look really good. I wouldn't mind taking out tabs all together to trade for a mobile theme like this ✌

Change is happening.

For example, you can have something like this without a problem https://material.io/guidelines/components/tabs.html

Definitely +1 for this design, it looks very clean & professional.
As for your OP Omni, do you have any plans when will you start making HF mobile more frendly? It seems like there is a lot work to do with new MyBB and so on. Have you tought about leaving myBB to the side and focusing completely on mobile version?
What a biased way to search
because it's mobile, means it's more relevant?
Gross.
But welcome to the new age I guess

If someone is using a phone it %100 makes sense to promote content they will actually be able to view. Google's job is to match your search with a website you will find appropriate for your search. If the site isn't mobile friendly and you're on a phone people will bail on the website. If people don't actually want to stay on the websites google promotes via searches, then their searches aren't doing their job. It makes sense imo

Aye, you say 100% so confidently
If I search up Martin luther king
and some dumb slave shit comes up first because it's mobile friendly
then where's your 100% "makes sense"

It %100 still makes sense to promote mobile viewable sites. It also makes %100 sense to consider the content of the page as well. It's one of many factors that play into getting good search results. I never said mobile friendly > everything else. But if you have two sites with similar content, it makes sense to promote the mobile friendly version if the user is on mobile. Lets say you have two websites covering a news story, if they cover the same story almost identically but one is mobile friendly then yeah it makes sense for that one to get promoted more.
