Soundcloud artists VS "real" artists

Hey!

Just a question for the community -

what separates a soundcloud artist vs a real music artist?

is it production value/mixing?

what if a soundcloud artist achieves professional mastering/mixing

PS: heres my music -

A record deal maybe? Not really my genre of music so idk.
You're still an artist. Just need more marketing done. Upload your shit to Spotify, it's easy. Get a specific marketer that handles Instagram, Youtube, Soundcloud, and Spotify. But the main focus is producing good content. I would never work with someone unless I thought their music has a chance of going somewhere. After you get decent exposure, there's a lot of other ways to get in touch with the big boys with a lot of connections.

Everyone who makes music is an artist. I think the answer you’re looking for is ‘what makes an artist a professional’, which is ofcourse getting paid by creating music or performing live.

I'd say the core aspect that separates the two groups you desire a comparison for would be most likely just creativity. By definition an artist is simply someone who expresses him or herself via the usage of created media. At some point, everyone has to start as a "SoundCloud artist." All people that desire to achieve some sort of value in any form of content creation needs to work to master what specific type of art they are trying to create. I listened to the first three songs on your SoundCloud and you are nothing special in my opinion. I noticed that you honestly used the same set of lyrics too many times. You need to try and remember to pay attention for when your chorus duplicates for too long a duration. Usually most hits keep three or four moments where the chorus is used to separate transitions of either story, theme, or swapping of vocalists. I'd suggest trying to think of creative lyrics. There are literally billions of options as to what theme you want to run with. It might just help you to think if you want to be impactful, comical, boisterous, braggadocios, bashful, or any of the other thousands of thematic additives that exist in this wonderful language that you seem to be natively speaking. I am currently halfway through my Masters degree in Animation and Media Arts. I have made some a few grand friends in other similarly themed content creation departments including the audio engineering section at my university. Most of what I know about the art-form known as music has been taught to me from these people that are professionally dedicating there lives to one path. I trust there judgement and choose to return what they have taught me to others.

Hmu if you want any video content created that might match the themes you desire if you eventually pick one. I can also put you in contact with a few industry professionals when you eventually strive forward and stand above many other "SoundCloud" musicians. Keep on keeping on.

Just by taking a look at your profiles and I can easily say that you have not. Good luck though.

care to explain what your talking about? It seems your speaking out the ass
I mean, the moment you make music even if its good or bad it makes you an artist. But I feel like the answer to your question is that most people on Soundcloud are independent artists. They create music either by hobby, or full-time, and they may have their own studio and whatnot. Simple. What makes you a "real musician", in my own words, would be performance. If you don't perform your songs for groups of people, either live, or by DJ'ing and only spread your music through online exposure, you're a SC Artist. But if your goal is play your music to the people and spread your music not only through online, but also through live performances, that makes you a musician.

Take it from someone who's been on both sides of things. I used to be in a wedding band. A little different, than an actual band. Actual bands play their own composed music lol. And i also have DJ'ed in clubs and other places. I've even been able to play a few of my personal songs. (Which sounded horrible btw, back then I had no idea what a mastering process was or even limiting lol).

I'm a DJ/Producer and don't play my own songs, simply because sometimes where I play doesn't fit my tracks. Some people though would have no thought and just play what ever they wanted.

Why did you stop Dj'ing?

Not to be rude, but you should probably stick with your friends. Audio Engineering and general Media Production studies only ever-so-slightly graze the tip of the iceberg when it comes to music production and arrangement. 🤦‍♂ Music isn't made based on themes alone. There's a lot of thought and feeling that goes into composing and recording a piece of music. Even if we stick with something that you've probably studied there are probably so many music related terms and definitions and theories, that you could learn. Think about the recursive layering of complex melodies like in Bach's work. Or maybe about how popular songs are written. What kind of research goes into writing the lyrics. How much of the song involves yourself? Other people?

You view-point seems to be that only of the technical. Which is fine. I'm not trying to devalue your thoughts in anyway. But, technicality will only get you so far. I know some people who's songs sound amazing. All the instruments are just right. Its not over compressed, the snare punches, and the kicks knock you on your ass, yet the arrangement is crap. Variation of sounds? crap. Melodies, Crap. So in the end your Audio Engineering degree will not help you alone. Art is a process. Understanding art, is understanding the/a process. Being an artist makes you a person who understands and and can use your understanding to create processes which will something of your own accord into existence. So to be a musician, you must first be an artist.

Well, you know if the music you make isn't the right BPM or even theme of what you're DJ'ing you don't have to play it haha. That actually makes you a good DJ :p. But I never technically "quit" DJ'ing. I had to sell my decks and my laptop to move/escape. Its been a couple of years now and I really want to get back into it. Plus the decks I used to use are cheap now 🎉

A lot of Soundcloud artists are pure trash.
Others are undiscovered gems

the difference can be either skill or pure luck.
If you're good you may someday get discovered. Or you may not.

That's why you have to market yourself, to improve your chances.

Agreed. The whole "soundcloud rapper" stigma is stupid im my opinion. Its literally just another platform to share your content. Doesn't make you any less of an artist in my personal opinion.

exactly true. I'm an artist myself. I don't upload my music anywhere but that doesn't make me a worse guitar player somehow.

Also, Hello Vamure. Haven't seen you all day. Missed you
