Thoughts?
(I chose Jay's video because it's the most straight forward out of the ones I've watched so far)
Take what I say here with a big grain of salt as I haven’t watched that video yet (on my way home)....
From what I have seen so far the 2080Ti is really the only decent card from a performance point compared to the 10xx series. The 2080 is more or less a 1080Ti.
This has been standard Nvidia progression for the last handfull of generations, the xx80 matches the previous Ti and the xx70 matches the previous xx80 ect...
Now as for the 2080Ti, Nivida has basically said they were doing away with the “GTX Titan” line and historically the xx80Ti has used the same die as the Titan of the generation. Knowing this and seeing the price of the 2080Ti, I would venture to say there likely won’t be a “Titan” for this line as a consumer card and they are banking on the enthusiasts who would normally go for the Titan to buy the 2080Ti.
Also I have seen some VERY good reviews of the 2080Ti FE and some of the partner cards.... I am very heavily considering upgrading from my 980Ti to the 2080Ti from what I’ve seen so far.
Once I get more information digested I can comment further but that’s it for now.
The performance upgrade is definitely typical of what we see with Nvidia and their newly released cards compared to the prior model. The main difference between the 2080Ti and other previously released models is the ginormous price jump. Past performance increases and the price follow the same correlation until we reach the 2080Ti, where the price increase is SIGNIFICANTLY more than any other newly released card (in relation to it's prior release).
It seems apparent as to why Nvidia barely touched the performance aspect of the card, and instead focused mainly/heavily on the Ray Tracing capabilities, because the performance really isn't anything to brag about. Especially with the card running around 75-80 degrees under load in an open tench bench..
I think we will have to wait until a more thorough introduction of Ray Tracing comes to play with developers and how that progresses in the scene. I think for now, it'll stay as an enthusiast's card.

Yeah this is basically what I was saying, the gaming performance between the xx80Ti and Titan cards was negligible at best, they basically dropped the “titan” right out of the gate as the 2080Ti.
The PCB also points to this, seeing layouts that were previousely only found on Titans...
Still have to do more reading myself to have a clear opinion if I’m honest but so far minus the stupid price it’s decent. Raytracing does nothing for me personally so I really haven’t factored it in yet...
As for temps they are really quite good honestly, considering the 1080Ti pinned at 86c the throttling itself with GPU boost..... and still up to 30% more performance...
Considering I've got a 1080 I'm not going to be upgrading every new generation. I'll upgrade every 2 generations, it's a complete waste of money upgrading every generation.

Honestly for most people every 3rd is kinda the sweet spot, typically every 3-4 years is average.
I've been waiting to buy my new build once the benchmarks of the 2080Ti were released and I think I might just go ahead and cop the 1080Ti at this point. I'm still undecided, but I'm hoping the 1080Ti prices drop somewhat soon, although I think that's gonna take some time.

Wrong time for me to decide to buy a new setup...
It will be at least 6-8 months.... before they make a significant drop.
There is a surplus of 10xx cards so instead of the year wait it might be shorter... maybe...
What i have seen it's only worth if you have money and 4k monitor (or maybe even 1440p) but definitely not worth it if you are playing on 1080p monitor even with 240hz i don't think it would be worth to get 2080 or 2080 ti for it when pascal is still very good card.

Yea this is the part that sucks the most. I'd like to grab a 1080Ti for less than $700 right now lol. Would be a pretty nice upgrade from my 980Ti.
My friend is thanking me for telling him to wait before buying these cards. This only goes to show that you should never pre-order anything without being informed on the product you are purchasing.

Yeah, I keep saying never pre-order PC hardware.......
I'm 90% sure the 2080Ti will replace my 980Ti eventually.
The RTX is useless right now, but it's still a decent jump and I'm sure I'll find a sale on it at some point.

Very good point. This reminds me, I haven't bought a monitor in ages because my Asus VG248QE has been treating me like gold. Are 1440p 144hz monitors a thing?

They are probably the best option for gaming right now.

Except for people who bought the 7970 GHZ edition in late 2011!

Yes those are a thing.I would say they are kind of a sweetspot for good framerates and quality. However i would't get one unless you are coming from 60hz monitor or something like that.
