The importance of parents

I am writing this thread more for me than it is for you, however there will be an extreme amount of wisdom and value in the end. Today is my Moms birthday and I am reminded of my past. When I was 15 years old my dad was sick with stage IV kidney cancer. It was very hard for me being so young. My parents were divorced so I was living with my mom who was working 2-3 jobs to support me and my sister. She was never home so I was always out causing trouble because I didn't know how to deal with my dad being sick. I did my best to keep it tucked away and instead I decided to hangout with the wrong people and do things like steal, fight, and take drugs. I got kicked out of my moms house and went to move in with my dad and his wife (my stepmom). My dad was the most hard working person I've ever been close to. He created his own business many years ago and was lucky enough to succeed. While I moved in with my dad I still never really told him how his sickness was distorting my mental health. I was later diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and put on heavy medication because I thought something was wrong with me (later to find out it was just me not dealing with my dads illness). It didn't seem like anything was going to get better and truthfully I could never pictured myself to get my anxiety lifted. My stepmom who was my dads wife also was diagnosed with cancer. Watching them both fight cancer was the hardest thing I ever had to endure. I made this thread two years ago when my dad had passed away. I had watched him take his last breath ever. I thought back to all the memories me and him had and came to the cold realization I would never create anymore with him. I am almost 19 now. I miss my dad a lot. It's hard to even think back to when he was alive and not sick. All I can do is model his hard work, success, and pride. I have created nearly 20 different businesses since. I may not know what it's like to emerge into adulthood with a father but I surely will always remember what position my dad was in and all I can do is follow. I realize the importance of setting an example for your future children because they will always follow it. What I realize now is:
1. Our day-to-day problems aren't a big deal.
2. If you have loving parents they are providing you love that is irreplaceable. Seriously.
3. If you have someone that's sick you care about take time to explain to them how you feel and how much you do care about them.
It's hard to face stuff like that, too early. 17 is young, when I was 17 I couldn't imagine that.

This helps me appreciate my parents more. I wish more people understood this, sometimes in my threads I come across as as cunt but this is what I try to convey. It's crazy the impact parents have, loving parents teach children more than anything in the world ever could, and it nurtures them into great people, most of the time.

Good to hear you're dealing with it better. Love is the strongest feeling, losing it must be the worst. All I could tell you is that, it seems your father was with you long enough for you to know what kind of person he wanted you to become. I don't know why your thread went unnoticed, for some reason it's not often you see people willingly open up. They try to deal with it on their insides, but opening up helps others too put things into perspective well and hopefully learn something from what you had to say

Thanks man. I am too much of a pussy to ever share these thoughts with anyone in person but I know I can write it on here and affect at least one person. Glad you found some wisdom in this.

That's what the Internet is for. Maybe not always good things, people say nasty stuff. But its great, because we are all sharing our inner thoughts, stuff we would never say in person. Good or, bad, I always find it interesting as you get to learn things you normally wouldn't.

Your step-mom fighting cancer too though? I couldn't imagine how they must've felt going through that together, its a nightmare, but its reality for so many people

Luckily she beat the cancer yeah I cannot image how it had to be for her especially since her last husband passed away.
