Some departments are trained to ask ID first before saying anything else.
Sorry, but you were the asshole.

The cop walked up too me and asked for my ID, which then I proceed to ask why I got pulled over. He then proceeds to say the most stupid comment, "I don't need to tell you, GIVE ME YOUR ID SIR." I then proceed to tell him that he can't just pull me over if he has no probable cause. The officer then proceeds to ask my gf for her ID and at that point I told her not to hand her ID over even though she was about too. You being a dick to the cop is just going to make it worse. Just give them your ID and move along, it will make your life and the cops life a whole lot easier.

The best thing to do is contact a lawyer in whatever state you're in and ask them, they know the law better than Google. (Apr 15, 2019 08:30 PM)Crypt Wrote: You should've recorded it. Not calling you a liar but most people (the courts) won't believe this happened without some evidence. They are supposed to tell you why they stopped you and it doesn't make sense he just left the scene when you wouldn't give your info. If anything he has a body cam on him...hopefully... :3

If you don't have warrants, and a valid license why would you refuse to show identification? Honesty goes a long way with cops, bullshit won't always slide. This is pure logic, if you had a cop who was patient, but also firm. You probably would be in jail right now if you continued to refuse identification. For Mr.Peanut II situation, it is presumed that he did not break any laws as the officer is supposed to notify you as to why he has pulled you over. Maybe if the police officer had told him why he had been stopped, he would have been more willing to surrender his ID to the police officer? Regardless, if I was randomly stopped by a police officer in my region, I'd give the police officer my ID and while I am handing it over I would politely ask him/her the reason why I was pulled over. I honestly think it is not worth it though, considering the power that a police officer has. If they want they can give you a really hard time. This is what I would do too. I wasn't there so I don't know the tone of voice and the posture the OP had, or perhaps this cop just had a chip on his shoulder. Yes, you are right. First impression is very important. Maybe the cop and OP had a bad first impression? We don't know.
Just be cool give him what he wants and let him be on his way, he doesn't want to be stuck by the side of the road having to argue with some pretentious kid that thinks he knows the law and wants to make a stand...................I'd be more concerned if the police weren't doing their job and stopping peoples on the road. You were the problem here by making his job harder than it has to be, no wonder he was a dick to you. All he was asking for is ID, not like you were doing handbrake turns in the Walmart carpark while screaming profanities out the window, I don't see why you had to make a molehill into a mountain.
Let him do his job, comply, then complain if you have video later.
