what drives a hacker these days?

Ok, give me your best shot, what drives a hacker these days. Is it money, the thrill or what? I know what drives me, but I’m curious about what’s driving you

(truthfully, I need some material to write in my book)
What drives me to be a security professional is the privilege I was extended to witness cyber security protocols being implemented. From a white hat perspective, watching the security measures taken to protect users is incredible but also sad. It’s a shame we can’t trust users to be themselves and be smart on the Internet.

From a black hat perspective, witnessing social engineering techniques, spear phishing, and other methods of stealing user data WITHOUT necessarily accessing network systems is incredibly fascinating. From a more intrusive side, watching pentesters utilize their tools (similar to a technician) to inject themselves into the system they are trying to enter is crazy. If you ever get an opportunity to do a hackathon or go to one, I encourage it.

Personally a scooter. It's what gets me around.

All jokes aside - Nothing. Thrill is gone - breaking and entering, stalking emplyees home, finding an exploit in a system -
I guess for some people that feeling never goes but i'm dead inside these days. That's why i'm moving to game development.
none of you are hackers give it up

"watching skids run kali linux with CVE's ready for them to execute is so fascinating man.."

wow doxing soundspretty skiddish to me

game dev requires extensive graphics knowledge... if you dont have any you aint a game dev

not basic physics
Why people mistake doxing as hacking ? Woah you will get your name & address exposed, lets keep it on topic. Hacking for money will get you nowhere. I'm personally doing it for the knowledge.

Doxing is all part of hacking - it's used to escalate privileges as well as social engineer. Game development doesn't require extensive graphics knowledge.
An example is as stated, following someone home - hacking their home network or breaking in and bugging the house for work priv escalation.

Good luck with your attitude though.

It's like saying people mistake Engines for Cars. They aren't the same thing - plenty of machines have engines. It's just cars have one too.
Money, fun, more money... maybe it interests them. Nothing wrong with that.

90 % of people are using those public search engines and they paste the info somewhere, i really cannot consider this as hacking. Of course there are people who could gather more info thru SE and so on but I'm talking in general.

I'd consider creating a RAT not hacking either or any old virus -
The easier something becomes, the less people consider it hacking.

There is a huge difference between coding a RAT from scratch and using something already done(public search engines like pipl, spokeo and so on). Other is the question why people are copy and pasting functionality taken from github and then selling their "brand new rat". Coding a Rat(without pasting) not only requires years of experience around the programming lang but networking as well.

Not at all, coding a rat from scratch is fucking easy. It honestly doesn't require years of experience to get a shell on a PC - It's literally a reverse connection. What are you on?

Unless you are trying to say coding your own fucking netcat and mingw which literally there is 0 point.

Every fucking PC by default has the tools on it to initiate a connection - creating a fucking executable jar or even exe to utilize an internet connection to allow for remote communication? That's like the most basic shit.

Here's one of many examples. Fucking telnet -
Ok create a fucking batch file that enables telnet and pings back so you know which public IP has run your file. Convert to exe if you must. Not hard from a batch.

Let them fucking run it. Connect via telnet. Run whatever you fucking want.

Name a single damn rat on HF that has used anything unique. They add other libraries and then 'code' them in so they can click it and run a command on the other end.

Let's keep the nice attitude. If you code something like RAT without prior knowledge in the programming & networking field I could only imagine how poorly written the software could be. So yes coding a software is much more complicated than spending few minutes to hours of searching info regading x person. Not to mention WebMonitor is also HTTP based, which makes everything more complicated. Every RAT here is clone of something else with different GUI but same functionality. Cannot say the same for only two(WebMonitor and Orcus).

Yeah, you try. 😏 Doesn't mean you succeed.

I'm financially motivated.
