NASA almost 'missed' a 100-metre-wide asteroid that missed Earth

Quote:Back in July, Earth had a lucky escape after a 100-metre-wide asteroid flew perilously close to the planet.

Named 2019 OK, the asteroid passed our planet at a distance of 40,400 miles. While this might sound far, it’s terrifying close in astronomical terms.

Dunno how much is 100 meter asteroid honestly. Thought it was like big enough to cause some damage otherwise if it's small enough to burn up on entry than I don't really care about it.
NASA news is always so dramatic ;)

I didn't realize that myself.

Geostationary orbit distance is the point of concern. That's around 22000 miles. Anything significantly further out than that is really not a concern if it isn't going to burn up satellites or enter the atmosphere.
This is pretty old new though. Like you said, July. It was also reported back then. I don't know why this suddenly became a thing again, almost 3 months later? Seems like news outlets have to recycle their articles every couple of months.

It's easier that way, you don't have to write anything, just copy and paste into an auto blog/article rewriter program, I know they all do it.
