However, I'm just trying to find an active community of people who play a variety of different games, so hopefully I can have people to play with most of the time and to keep me occupied with chat whilst I'm grinding out different missions.
I'm thinking about setting up a Discord server - But are there not any gaming social media sites?
I have to be honest with you, I am kinda old (early 30s) and I have not been playing hardcore in the past few years (I would play 6+ hours when I was in school/university and 16+ hours on weekends!). But, I think there are many good steam communities out there. There are many, many guides, groups, etc on Steam! If you find some like minded people then you can invite them to your Discord and create an awesome gaming of yourself!
Please have in mind that the more competitive a game is, the more toxic the average person becomes! That's why games like CSGO and LoL are notorious.
Based on my experience, players of these games are mostly friendly and welcoming, you can visit their forums and find members who are interested in other games. These games include:
-Team Fortress 2
-Company of Heroes
-Guild Wars 2
-Rocket League
-Insurgency
-Battlefield 2, the game is dead but there was a fan-made version name BF2 Revive. I think EA shut it down. Awesome people.
-Older CoD games like CoD2 and CoD4
-Speed running communities (These guys are VERY friendly and welcoming)
Cheers.
Edit: I forgot Warhammer, Warhammer 40K and Total War communities. Also, there are many people in WoW who are friendly and spend month teaching you the game.
