I've always wanted PUSH notifications.... that was the goal of changing our Notify system and getting rid of MyAlerts. How our system works is worlds beyond what other MyBB sites offer.
thanks! especially useful for contract notifications if you want to get deals done fast
For the notification freaks, this is great news guys!
Staff member 10th Jan 2017 - 30th May 2020.
HF Administrator 30th May 2020 - 14th July 2022.

It was a blast being on staff. I stepped down as it's time for me to move on. I wish you all the best and if you were hit by my warnings and/or bans, it was nothing personal.

Peace out!
This is one of the most suggested feature I guess .

Nice update

HF became the most advanced mybb forum ever

Oh, I thought you were totally against it back in the day, unless it was just notifications in general, besides PUSH notifications.
Any plans to make it open source? It would be a nice way to give back to the community (MyBB) that has supported HF for so long.
This is very useful and works great on mobile, thank you xerotic
Works for me without any issues so far on both laptop and android.

Actually for most of HF's existence MyBB decidedly did NOT offer HF support of any kind. They even put a marker on Omniscient's profile at their community forum to alert their team not to support him. If anything, HF has supported MyBB. Omniscient helped secure the MyBB.com domain. Omniscient released a slew of plugins via MyBBCentral: http://mybbcentral.com/ . Via HF MyBB has receive numerous bug reports. HF brought popularity to MyBB. And for the longest time MyBB refused to offer support to their largest board.

I get the suggestion but if it was up to me I would not make any original HF features open source.
MyBB owes a lot to HF if anything, and they won't even support the site or the creator with anything.

I think on-site notifications are mainly pointless because you're already on the site. Also MyBB already comes with important notification for PMs. Even PUSH notifications do not work from the browser if you have the tab open.

Push Notifications are very nice as they go to your desktop even if the browser is closed and also to your mobile device. Overall what's happening now has always been my goal and long term plan for HF.

The only problem now is iOS. Damn Apple requires you to run a native app to do notifications. It's a large chunk of our mobile users too. So we pobably have to address it.

No, we will not. I pay real money to have this stuff developed. I lose money when my competition butchers my ideas, concepts, and code. I will not open-source our work. And I tell you that 99% of MyBB admins wouldn't be able to execute this anyways because of complexity with the server. We would have to write very detailed instructions and probably offer tech support. We didn't invent Push Notifications. The code is there for anyone to use. We just figured out the best ways to implement with a MYBB forum. We are still bug fixing and improving too.

And as far as MYBB community is concerned. It's got severe problems with 2.0 never being released and 1.9x as their fallback heavily delayed. I just think they are done as a team because of lack of leadership and clear vision. I have already spoken to a few people about forking the project. We would do so as a premium paid version. I have no desire to have these years of hard work marginalized by making it free. I'd be MyBB's Craig Wright if you think about it.

Any app developer can correct me if i'm incorrect, but I think that an app for IOS gonna be hard to publish as they might not approve it in related to the name "Hackforums" just cuz it has the word "hack" in it. And if you were able to get it approved, you will most-likely get a lot of false reports for the same reason. An Android app would be easier to publish I think, but I don't think it's needed right now.

Name it "HF" or "HF Notifications" depending on the purpose of the app. ;) Problem solved

Plenty of iOS apps with "hack" in the name or description.
