I'm not sure this is a valid suggestion but might be helpful for me.

We should be able to use @Mention--@ in Private Message and Convo. Maybe convo is not necessary but can be used in PM's.

Mentions in convo and Pm's won't notify the users but can link them so it's easy for a profile to be sent to someone.

I realized this could be a suggestion when I was talking to a guy and he asked me for a crypto exchange. I suggested a few trusted names from the marketplace.

What is the point of adding them inside of PMs? Won't only the person you send it to see it?

I think this would be fine as long as it doesn't spam my PMs. Maybe add it to the thread list.

Also the tags don't work in signatures, not sure if that was a possibility. Probably not a lot of use for it though.

Why would they be needed in a signature? You really shouldn't be linking to a member and btw, you can still do a format and link the old fashioned way if you feel you want it that bad.

Notify would be a bad idea obviously, also notifying a third person would be useless.

Example:
eXceptional and Omni are talking in a convo or PM and tagged Xerotic (linking to his profile to show his awards/bragging/etc..) even if Xero gets the notification he still won't be able to open the notification as the messages are between eX and Omni (Unless it is a group convo)

Consider the old fashioned linking in a modern way without notifications.

I believe you have a point here. This can be done because when using the old fashioned way there are a lot of characters used which can be reduced by adding this feature.
In fact, instead of mentioning a user it should be more of linking a thread that way [mention=tid=ID-OF-THE-THREAD][img]IMG LINK[/img][/mention]

No point of getting notified when someone mentions you in their convo, that will just be abused to get your alert box spammed.

That is what I just said above. Spamming is not what I suggested. I believe there is a feature hidden somewhere between my words above which would obviously be used by most of the Hack Forums members.
