I already have a Case/PSU. Something low TDP and yet powerful. Any suggestions or changes? TBH i wanteed this under $300 was considering older intel xeon workstations.

I need something equal or atleast as strong in multicore as a 1950x or as close as possible and 64gb ram. Low tdp
64 GB is way too overkill. You shouldn't even use more than 16 GB for anything heavy. You don't need a GPU?

Ill need 64gb as my workloads require it 64 should suffice. I forgot 3700x has no igpu.. ill just throw a old gtx600s card in it.

I've never even remotely come close to using all of my 16 GB that I have let alone 64. That's insane. Are you running a nuclear plant?
64Gb seems a lot, considering the 3700x has 16 cores it means there is 4Gb for each core.

Not sure you can get something better regarding price/cores than the 3700X, otherwise there is the 3900X (12c/24t) but with higher TDP (105W).

Besides, are you sure everything will run based on an AMD CPU ? What kind of server you want to build ? Proxmox ? ESX ?

What kind of applications you want to run on it ?

Do you think 256 GB is enough for a server ? On a single disk ?

storage isn't much I may upgrade in future to 1-2tb ssd if necessary. I'll end up doing some blockchain/runescape bots. 3700x is 8cores/16threads. I was wondering if a older xeon server maybe worth it. Tdp will be much higher but price of the build would be much lower because of ddr3.

That's my point of view but I never go towards second hand devices / components, don't know what people did before with it :/

I use over 16gb of ram when playing 7 days to die
Be careful or you might get sarge'd

I usually buy second hand components never had an issue. Especially from a seller from ebay for example. im just curious of the tdp of those low end xeon chips.
