So this is an interesting topic, I would like to hear peoples opinion regarding this.

Let's say that you hunt pedophiles through the internet and you manage to get their PC infected and you can see that they are talking to kids and doing nasty stuff. Would you be okay if someone blackmailed them and made them pay like 5 grands and then report them to the police?

I personally would not want to make money off of the threat of exposing someone for exploiting children (thus myself indirectly making money off the exploitation of the children). Neither am I in the legal position to pass down such judgment on someone like this. It'd probably be best to figure out how to anonymously report the individual to the correct authorities.

For starters, I don't feel bad for pedophiles...at all. Secondly, you weren't specific on payment so, would you really want someone like that to send you money electronically, knowing they may be searched? I wouldn't.

Greed is a natural human instinct. First thing is first, they need to be reported/exposed, especially if they have the potential of causing harm to the vulnerable. However, take money from them by all means, but bankrupting them, destroying their lives and furthermore, exposing them! Now that... That means you are using your moral compass to justify your wrong doings.
Take what they can afford to lose and then expose, or just expose. I couldn't personally rinse them and expose them and make them hated by society for something they can not control.

I was wondering about that too, and after googling about it I found a few LE articles advising against it because if there is an ongoing investigation on someone and you blackmail him you may push him to erase all proof that could get him convicted.
