I looked it up, XMPP is Jabber, it got renamed at some point. It's a late 90s, early 00s instant messaging protocol. Shit, I might as well use MSN Messenger, at least more of my friends would be likely to pick it up than this.

I do use XMPP, but not Hacker.im, it's a great protocol for private conversations with OMEMO/OTR.

In France i heard about a guy who code a decentralized social network based on xmpp et with an http client, it's called movim. Maybe i will try to set up this thing one day.

Hmm... that error message is slightly misleading for newer users. HF had a previous XMPP service under a different domain. It was discontinued and in it's place is hacker.im. So that error message is saying the old service is gone, but hacker.im exists to be used instead.
