Quote:In this brand-new adventure, some Class 1-A students are sent to hone their survival skills at a training course. Having yet to receive their provisional licenses, they're eager to cut loose and have a little fun.
They quickly discover that the danger they face is no simulation! It's going to take their combined training, teamwork, and quick thinking if they're going to pass this assignment!

It's highly recommended to keep your posts in spoilers, but there is no way to enforce that since this is a discussion thread and anything goes. Don't get upset if you read something and you aren't up-to-date with the current episodes.
As for me, I shall use spoiler codes for the first three episodes. After that, I will not use the spoiler code anymore.
I am going to watch both episodes tonight, but I won't post my reviews until tomorrow when I can bump this thread.
This is a spin-off/un-cannon story I believe, so you are not required to watch it. In my reviews tomorrow I will confirm that. I believe this takes place during or before the third season of the show.
Wasn't aware about these episodes, I'll definitely watch them, waiting the next season, thanks for sharing man :)
Thanks for the info mate. I had no idea about this spin-off. Should be good considering its MHA.

Pretty sure it's one of the two OVAs that dropped on western platforms. They aren't new but most people probably haven't seen them.
Didnt knew it was already released, thanks for posting this.

No problem. :) Didn't expect this many people to respond.
I'm going to split up this discussion post in a few parts. This first part will be the explanation of what I am doing, and the rest following. I'll have two spoilers for each episode, and then I will have a final review outside of a spoiler. This is your warning now that there may be spoilers in the rest of this post.
Episode 1.
The first episode wasn't that exciting, but I wouldn't say that it was boring. The pacing is always great with My Hero, in my opinion, and I'm never finding myself bored. However, although not much happened, and I'm sure more things will pick up in the next episode, I believe this was an okay build-up episode, as this is a two-part spin-off. So far, nothing is canon to the anime, which I expected, and is fine with me.
Select amount of students are chosen to participate in a training test to ready themselves for the provisional license test they have not yet taken. The characters consist of the most popular I'd say, and I think everyone selected was a good choice. Teams are split up in two. Team A is what we are focusing on as these are the main characters selected. I will see in the next episode if we will get to see any of Team B. The test consists of natural disaster recovery, and their objective is to save someone who has not been able to evacuate the area.
I did say that this episode was not all that boring, and I think the story behind what is going on isn't a bad idea. Team A splits up into even smaller teams, where select members work together to find the person who is trapped faster. I, once again, like the smaller teams that were formed. Everyone has great synergy, and they are perfect for each other.
While inside of the mall looking for the trapped civilian, an "earthquake" erupts, and the mall collapses even more. In this process, Iida gets hurt, and now this has turned into a real training exercise, as Momo, Deku, Ochaka, and Tsu try their best to get Iida safely out of the mall.
Whether there is an actual person trapped or a dummy set in place that they need to recover to past the test, more tests within the tests erupt and the students must use their skills to overcome this.
Episode 2.
The second episode continues where we left off, and the team was successfully able to save Iida, and get him out of the mall. We also learn that the person trapped was a dummy and not an actual person, so this was able to put some of the character's minds at ease.
I didn't think too much of this episode. I'll probably just go into the final review since it doesn't make too much sense to discuss this episode when I'll be doing that in the final review. See you there.
Boku no Hero Academia: Ikinokore! Kesshi no Survival Kunren wasn't that entertaining, but I had a lot of laughs and good smiles after watching this. It is confirmed that this episode is a spin-off, and has nothing to add to the actual story. However, I felt like there was some good character development. Although those who have seen up to the most recent season, season 4, you already know how the characters interact with one another. I felt that in these two episodes, Bakugo, Todoroki, and Midoriya stood out the most in this short.
The purpose of this training exam was to test the characters in helping one another. A hero is someone who risks their life for another, with no intention of personal gain. You can see the genuine act of being a hero in these two episodes, as everyone works together to help their teammates.
As I mentioned in the first sentence, this story wasn't the most entertaining and you can't complain about it though. Considering this was two episodes long, there is only so much that can happen and I think what the anime was aiming for, served its purpose. I think that if you are looking for something to pass the time, and you are caught up on the series, sure go for it and watch it. You won't be gaining out of it, so don't get mad if you were expecting something cool to happen.
I was not sure if I wanted to rate this anime a 6 or a 7, but I ended up going with a 6. The reviews on this anime are fairly low, and I can understand that. I think if there was more excitement involved then I would bump it up to a 7.

It is a filler/non-canon story.
