Yes there was a lot of hype.
If I remember correctly, OMC was only listed on Allcrypt and then it got hacked. The project started dying from there. This was a while ago!

I really liked Omnicoin, I learned a lot about crypto mining and how crypto in general works from it. Too bad it wasn't incorporated in tandem with the bytes system.

That would be excellent if we could somehow incorporate Omnicoin with the bytes system somehow. Maybe use Omnicoin for buying actual awards/donations/other monetary requirements and bytes for other things such as thread bumping.

The good old days, personally I thought it had the potential of being a coin across forums not just HF.
But yeah, small coins have problems of being more vulnerable to attacks
