https://tryhackme.com/ ---- CTF and learning

https://tryhackme.com/
Paid for their upgraded shit, mainly using a virtual machine locally with the openvpn setup - extremely entertaining to fuck around with, wanted to give it a full test before making a thread but at this point i'd recommend it for a bit of fun.

Will do some rooms over the next few days.

Got my work colleague to do a rick and morty one lmao

Cool concept, will try this out for sure.
This is even more advanced that the missions of CYHT (won't spell it as it could be a 'competition forum' which I doubt).. but this looks great.

Bookmarked it to make sure I can test out my skills another day. Thank you Mr. Robot

Vibe seems like we have to get this award unlocked, for our Grand Magician Title;

It's all in good fun man.
It's been a while since I haven't been on THM, but that's definitely a good way to learn hacking with fundamentals and all fields around (like network, cipher, ...). I need to devote some time for it again

I'm having a blast, going to finish all the tasks on there hopefully by weeks end if I am free.
Heh I finished the rick and morty one. Tryhackme is a really good website for learning the basics.
But I think their CTF challenges are too unrealistic / easy.

What's your profile link - you done the insane ones?

Didnt bother trying the insane ones. (I'm not that good I think)

We had to finish a few basic challenges (including Rick and morty one) on THM for a class at uni.
I spent like ~3 weeks on every room I completed on my profile.
I had no prior CTF experience though.

Ah makes sense, I think you did a bunch of the easy ones that's why - try do some more extreme/harder ones and you'll see they get better. I've done 40 rooms in 2 days going slow.
Goal is to clear everything they have on there, like a couple hundred + rooms.

Just curious; why do you want to clear everything on there?
I've started HTB recently, their easy challenges are more difficult to me than the easy ones on THM.

I might try the more extreme/harder ones when I've further increased my skill.

I've pretty much completed HTB in the past - to the point where Omni got a DM from the owners because I was doing writeups for shit there.
I've found TryHackMe to be way better - but that's me.

I'll also argue that most HTB you don't learn anything new - it's just repetitive for the most part, pretty sure you could write up a script that auto detects the task at hand and runs through every option against every box for shits and gigs.
With TryHackMe - at least they run through some really awkward priv escalation that doesn't really get used all too much.

I'm not looking to waste time on flags with HTB, I'm looking to learn something different.

That's pretty good info for me.
I have completed only a handful of boxes on HTB (Beginner ones). I'm gonna
see whether HTB will be useful in my future hacking endeavors.

Did you do the writeups on HF? Lmfao.
