How would you raise your future child?
Are you going to let them live an easy life or are you going to make them work for it?
I'm really curious since I always see this meme regarding strict parents using chancla, belt, asian parent stereotype, etc. I'm asian too but they were not strict with me. I got scolded from time to time and got slap on my butt and hands but nothing more serious.

let them experience mixture of comfort and hardship so their personality can shape up properly
Keeping things like religion and discrimination out of their lives!

Thank you for your input.
If I may ask what is comfort and hardship for you?
Provide them with their basic needs and let them work for their wants?

With a lots of controversy surrounding religion and issues about discrimination, I see where you're going but what if your kids do this?
For example, in a heated argument, they use foul words. How would you react with that?
for me now im making it easy for him since it was hard for me i dont want him to get through what i went through.
I have a step daughter who just turned 1 today.
We plan on letting her choose who she has as a person (sexual orientation, career choice, life decisions, etc).
We only really want to teach her the essentials of life (IE how society sees right & wrong, how to stay out of trouble, social skills, etc)
I don't see us being strict or critical of her descisions or anything, more or less just trying to show her how the world works and trying to encourage her to do what she loves.

May I know what do you mean by "hard" in your life?
Are you talking about strict parents, financial issues, social issues, work issues, etc?
If you're not comfortable answering these questions then I respect that. I hope you're doing great there brother.

I appreciate you giving your thorough input on this topic.
Your parenting is just like what my parent does but what would you do if she do what you don't want her to do?
Will you give her a little scold, a little spank? For me, kids don't have a concept of right or wrong yet. They just wanna feel their surroundings and I'm curious how would you handle those kinds of situations.
The biggest thing that I didn't have growing up was the ability to share my fuck-ups with my parents. I was always getting spanked or punished in some way/shape/form. From that, my first goal with my kids is to make sure that they are able to come to me when they make mistakes and trust me to help them get through them and learn from them rather than immediately being shut down and chastized for making mistakes. Kids are going to make mistakes.

Considering she's only just turned 1, I'm not too sure how it will look. How I would assume it would look depends on what it is that's out of line exactly. People are very maiable, espcecially at a young age. I can't see physical discipline being issued unless it comes to somthing extremely serious. I feel like at most a day or two grounded (loss of all/most privledges) would be enough to send the message. Especially when you consider that both myself and the mama have ADHD, which has a serious impact on the upcoming of children. A lot of times children with ADHD act out without meaning to do any harm, they're just too young to realize the real impact of their actions.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you plan well who are you going to be with in the future. But even if we plan it so well, there would be such an event that we cannot control.
Anyway, keep on doing your best brother. 👍

I feel you, buddy. I, myself hide fucked up shit from my parents. They don't torture me or anything but it hurts me whenever they scold me with a loud voice. I can tolerate those tone of their voice today than I am when I was a kid.
I get why they are angry and I learned a lot with their method. The negative side effect of their method was I've been secretive to them. I know I'm wrong and I don't want to get scolded.
But here is the catch, I want my future kids to be able to tell me their story without being scared or punish BUT I don't know the approach. Like I said with the other reply, for me, kids can't discern the right from wrong. What if they do such horrible things like hurting other kids. Talking in a calm or angry manner might not teach them.
