Convo Alerts for Group Convos

I'm sure this must have been suggested at some point, but I couldn't find it anywhere. We should receive convo alerts for group convos just like we do for private convos. At the very least, we should have the option to turn them on.

As it is now, no one uses group convo because no one knows when someone sends a message. All the groups that I'm in have days between most messages. And most of those messages are I didn't even know there was a group convo!

This is definitely something that kills the group convos. Would be awesome to get this working.

Agreed! And be notified when we’re mentioned, with it taking us to the place in the conversation to read context.

It's like the old saying goes, every journey starts with a single programming task.

I think this would be a great feature to add to the group convos and would help bring life to it!

I don’t see why not.

This should be added.
I don't like this idea.

If it does succeed in creating more activity in group Convo then as many as 125 members will get constant notifications and likely turn them off anyways.

Also, we no longer have a JS developer for HF. So it's not likely any code changes to Convo or Notify will be happening soon.

Even if I wanted to do this, I don't think I can.

If you were able to implement it and there was an option to turn them off, it could only be a positive thing. The users who want the alerts would have them, and the users who don't want them still wouldn't have them.

I understand you don't have anyone to work on this or many other potential projects right now, but maybe it's something that could be looked at somewhere down the line.

Out of curiosity, are you actively looking for a JS developer? It seems like there would be plenty of users here who be interested in the job.

I am not actively looking for a JS developer. I'd be more interested in adding it to my own skillset at some point.

Whether you choose to implement this feature is obviously up to you, but the constant excuses of not having a JavaScript developer are getting old. You run a website that needs maintenance, and whether you like it or not, has core functionality that's reliant on JavaScript. The Convo is in significant need of an overhaul, whether it be Quick Convo, group convos, the design, etc. The reality of the situation is, "at some point" will never actually occur, and we'll be stuck with outdated and buggy features. You made a huge push for improved user oriented functionality in 2018-2020, I'm unsure why you're now neglecting that mindset. You have a userbase of talented and tech oriented individuals just like Xerotic, some of which who currently maintain HF projects. Finding a trusted and competent replacement for Xerotic isn't impossible, should you choose to go down that route.

Half of the suggestions that come in revolve around JavaScript in some way, so if you're unable to attend to those, you might as well close the Suggestions subforum until "some point" is met.

I'm willing to work on HF features that you ask for, in my free time, for absolutely free. I'm literally not asking for anything, all I want is to be able to contribute and make HF members happy, while taking off some weight from your shoulders. You can learn JS in the meantime.
Let me know.
