I am a total noob to forum posting so bear with me show me some grace.
I have a T-Mobile 5G home internet router/modem I got for out of a dumpster basically. it would be a shame to see this thing go to waste. I called T-Mobile and they don't even want it back and when I tried to activate it or open my own account with it, they said we'll just send you a new one. That seemed silly to me so I just hung up.
I'm novice at hacking and modifying things. I mean shit. I just rooted my first Android last month. I'm just looking for a little bit of knowledge. Maybe what I'm seeking to do with this thing just isn't possible. but I got to inquire. My goal is to modify its firmware or flash new firmware to it that takes the T-Mobile label or lock off of it and makes it just a generic router/gateway or what have you. It's 5G ready and it has a SIM slot. So another thing I'm wondering is if it's possible to carrier unlock it like you would a phone's SIM, but through force though. Lord knows T-Mobile isn't going to give me an unlock code or unlock it themselves. there are a number of ports on it. There is a landline port, a USB type C, 2x LANs and an eight pin-4x4 plug they're calling UPS, which I have no idea what that means.
If anyone in the community has any insights, theories, ideas, solutions, tools, anything that'll help me further my endeavor and occupy my mind and time Please comment or DM me. I have nothing but time on my hands. I'm trying to learn as much as possible. I'm also looking to learn other forms of modification, cracking and hacking. If any of you find folks feel like taking an aggressively thirsty novice pupil under their wing. It would be the world to me. I don't have a lot of friends nor do I have any idea on where to begin on how to learn what I seek. I plan on posting something similar to this last paragraph in like the introduce yourself section of the forum, just to get my name out there, and hopefully get some responses. Thanks guys. Looking forward to hear from all of yous!
