So, out of nowhere my co-worker gets a call in the middle of the evening by a female "Crypto Analyst"
She is apparently looking for someone else but she says "Hey, maybe you might be interested in this investment?"
Him being a sucker for any female anywhere, he says for sure. "You buy when I buy"
Later on down the line, he shows us the stats of his "Pi Network" investment on "Crypto.com"
His investment had skyrocketed to close to $200k and was somehow frozen in time.
We shared our suspicions, but all he saw was dollar signs on his phone.
At this point, he is frantically trying to withdraw this massive lump sum he has just acquired.
But there is a catch. For this, he will have to pay his taxes up front.
He wants to withdraw $10k to test the waters, so they ask for $1000
He sends it.
While waiting, he decides "Why don't I withdraw it more"
He sends more.
Until bam!
$40,000.00 USD in the hole
The man put up title loans, borrowed from the bank, and above all he borrowed $20k from a family member.
He admits, he got scammed.
But wait! Just as he is starting to recover from this last scam, he runs into another lady via Telegram.
Boy do they hit it off, the man can't stay off his phone!
He's showing us pictures and videos of her, luxury cars, houses etc.
At this point, he is now talking about moving to Arizona where she is located. He is ready to leave RIGHT then but she is opening another "firm" in Minnesota of all places? what??
The next morning, he comes in and says "Moved my retirement over to her" She invested it and that he would be able to live off of just the interest until he is able to move to Arizona.
She insists that he get off of ALL social media. He obliges.
By now, many of us have raised red flags at every opportunity, but our concerns fell on deaf ears.
The man came into work when I was off, and quit without a notice because "He was retiring"
He is in his mid 50s and just gave up his retirement.
It took him 3 weeks, but he finally retrieved his tool box from work, and the situation was still the same. Come January he is moving to Arizona to live with her, he even sent me a picture of a Rolex she had bought him (that he wasn't in possession of)
So within the course of 3 months, this man lost $40,000.00
His 9 year 401k
Quit his job.
Kicked his wife and two kids to the curb
Is selling all his possessions, for a lie.
Thanks to Cooligan for the title change!
