What's Your 5 Year Plan?

(Oct 5, 2024 11:59 PM)Bastille Wrote:  I’m trying to get back on my feet after losing all my savings with my ex-girlfriend. I’m planning to work for two years as a SOC Analyst here in France and then move to the USA or Canada for one or two years.

I want to see what it's like to work in other places, and salaries can vary significantly tbh. However, I’ve also heard that the job market is kind of messed up right now. I’ll see how things go over the next two years and decide what to do then.

If I stay in France I think I could spend between 1 and 3 years as a SOC Analyst (tier 2 and tier 3), then move to something like forensic or malware analyst. If I move to the USA or Canada I would keep my SOC Analyst role as I would be comfortable with it, I think moving to another country and also changing your job can be a lot to handle, better to rest on one's laurels

Sounds like you've had a few bumps in the road but at least you sorta know where you want to end up bud!
I think you are right 100% though, moving to a whole new country AND changing into a new role at the same time is no small task, lots of logistics and moving parts with that sorta situation.

I want to keep growing my die-cast collection and take my side hustle to the next level. Eventually, I’d love to expand my business and maybe even explore new ventures. It’s all about balancing passion projects and financial growth.

That sounds like a plan nonetheless!
What sorta side hustles have you been exploring at the moment, if you don't mind me asking?

Thats a healthy plan indeed, finding a good balance of enjoyment and progress can be difficult but its definitely worth it.

I’ve been diving into selling die-cast cars lately. It started with photography, but now it’s turned into a side hustle. It’s been a fun way to combine my passion with business.

Thanks, mate! Yeah, it’s been a fun side hustle, and there’s definitely a market for it. Just enjoying the process and seeing where it goes.

Honestly I love the starting stages of a new business haha, think I'm starting a new email marketing venture soon and gonna post about it on here as like a case study to help people understand the process!

That’s cool! The early stages are definitely exciting. There’s so much potential and room to grow. Starting an email marketing venture sounds like a great idea, and doing a case study will definitely help others learn from your experience. Looking forward to seeing how that goes for you.

A five-year plan, like the one Stalin initiated for the communist Soviet Union in 1928? 🙄😆

Seriously, I actually had a five-year plan when I was in my 20s. Within five years, I planned to finish my education, and in the following five years, I would find "the right one" and so on.

None of it came to fruition. ☹️
Keep working my ass off, save money, and hopefully buy a house but we'll see how that plays out.
I don't really do rep for rep so if you're using your daily rep on me save it for someone else ❤️

Long time fascination with computers, politics, some gaming, but less so nowadays.

Yeah, got caught up in some other projects over the last week (hence the dip in my activity here too) but we back now lmfao got some free time so think I'll set something up over the next month n see how it goes for sure.

Maybe you need like smaller goals or more specific, achievable goals?

Having the normal goal of like "In 5 years I'll own *specific item or house or some shit*" is great but also having goals that build up to helping you achieve your main goal can help a lot too.

That's the way to do it mate! There's more humans every day that wanna own houses, idk if it'll be something we can do for sure in like 20-30 years so gotta graft now and get one whilst it's obtainable for sure.
I finally will be done with school in the spring. Which means I can finally enter the working world and hopefully find a job in the graphic design field locally. I would try web development but locally that industry like doesn't exist here for jobs which is why I got my design degree. They go hand and hand together so that is a plus. Once I land a solid first job it will be all about starting to build my own personal savings. I won't have any student loan debt and I already have a good car that is fully paid off. I like to live frugally as much as possible and save as much as I can.

There is not specific 5 year plan. Stay in the job I work now as far as it gets and then will see

Yeah that's fair, not everyone has a set plan! Some like to take each day as it comes and evaluate their position from there.

A great set of goals.

It's not only that. We live in a time where things are changing so rapidly so in order to create a long term plan you gotta a have a long term forecast of what is about to come is sectors like jobs
