Hurricane Milton |
(Oct 7, 2024 06:11 PM)Doug Dimmadome Wrote: It's so sad. I've seen a few videos while scrolling on TikTok of people saying they're not going to evacuate for one reason or another while they're in the direct path of the hurricane . These people are probably going to die and it boggles my mind that they'd rather make excuses than find SOME WAY to get the hell out of there. There's always a way, they just don't want to try. As of ~12ish hours ago driving out of the state is impossible, no gas available and highways are clogged. Best choice is to head to the eastern side and sleep in a vehicle if nothing else is available. Current expectation are ~15 feet storm surge on Tampa. Even the most well built homes in Florida are only rated for ~12, these are million dollar homes. That portion of Florida like certain portions of NC may become inhabitable for a certain period of time.

This is one crazy hurricane season, Milton intensified very rapidly.

I live up the coast quite a ways from Florida and even when we're going to get the after effects of a hurricane (which happens fairly regularly), the cars both get filled up and we make sure there are things to eat/drink in the house. If I lived in Florida, this would be 10x. And if they started announcing mandatory evacuations, I'd be out of there without even thinking. It's so sad that not more people took is seriously sooner. It was 3 degrees right? Why they say now its 5?
The thing is I use to live around that area and if a hurricane came it would just come through as a light rain and nothing more, this time around its insane how big and strong this thing is going to be I hope for the best for everyone that is there and that they stay safe. I have seen videos of companies price gouging for supplies and transportation being four times the price which is insane to do when its a life or death situation for people. What I don't understand are people that are not evacuating even though they were told to do so.
