So, as most of you all know I am homeless, I am currently on probation also. I started a job recently as a dishwasher at a local bar. Pretty big fucking bar mind you, one that was well kept and appeared pretty modest. Well, I walk in and I get a tour of the place by the manager. Immediately as I step into the kitchen I notice workers blatantly smoking vapes and cigarettes. Shocking to be honest and it sorta bothered me. As, those chemicals getting onto the food, surfaces, and food prep utensils is most certainly a health safety violation. Moreover, as I begin my position of dishwashing, I see a bunch of workers and even the manager himself smoking weed and hitting pens in front of all of us. Don’t get me wrong, I like to smoke. The problem is, I am on probation and being near that shit and having it blown in my face I just can’t tolerate and handle. I don’t believe that environment would have been one that I would’ve excelled in. It was pretty much intolerable work. I am going to soon open a report with the health department because it is entirely unsanitary and excessive.
The search continues for a job lmao
I would continue to look for a different field of work. This behavior is known in the food industry. Be happy that you weren't around the coke addicted cooks just yet

Coke addicted cooks??? Jesus man. I have never experienced people smoking and vaping openly in a kitchen environment and it immediately was off putting and I am a smoker, I get it, people are addicted. However, I am not gonna light a fucking cigarette in the kitchen man haha it was just shocking to see it so open and there were no managers holding anyone accountable
Good on you for sticking to your moral code. Hope you find a new job soon
As long as it's something you feel right for you, it worth leaving

You've not heard of this before? I've heard thousands of stories from my friends that are chefs that it happens extremely often 🤣

Sadly there's shit like that even where I live and yet it's super strict here. If you would speak finnish then there would be a on-site technician job now available in Oulu, they pau +5k€/mo which is really good for that position tbh. Oh, I might have a few ideas...I'll shoot you a dm

I have never heard of it hahaha. I haven’t ever experienced it before and it is just fucking baffling how it even is allowed to happen

I mean it's not technically "allowed" to happen. But it does happen extremely often

I would stay at least a couple of months, just to get enough to go back on my feet ... However if you feel that you can find another job and that leaving this one is not a problem, listen to yourself

Well, I would have no problem working that job. However, the problem ultimately is me working there is actively enabling that sort of behavior. I also don’t want to risk my freedom just to make a paycheck. I am sure my PO would understand but that complicates my situation even more
Well ithink you made a smart decision by leaving that place ,firstly it will not be good for your mental health

Hope you find something soon man, this sounds like a nightmare. I know when I was having a recovery period, being around that stuff like that so casually is infuriating. Keep strong!

I do know that chefs and cooks have done cocaine to keep them going during 12-15 hour long shifts. But the once I know of do it on their breaks.
I feel bad for you purgs, I really hope you get back on your feet mate.
