Trump sets deadline for drugmakers to lower prices

President Donald Trump on Monday signed a sweeping executive order setting a 30-day deadline for drugmakers to electively lower the cost of prescription drugs in the U.S. or face new limits down the road over what the government will pay.

The order calls on the health department, led by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to broker new price tags for drugs over the next month. If deals are not reached, Kennedy will be tasked with developing a new rule that ties the price the U.S. pays for medications to lower prices paid by other countries.

It takes balls to go against the big Pharma. Medicines should be affordable to all. Good to see him doing this.

That’s pretty interesting, let’s see how things go. Going against big Pharma will be interesting…
Really amazing! Some people who get older who get some sort of odd auto immune condition that can be easily managed my meds, the price per pill is thousands for no reason. So it's either have insurance or die, then insurance won't approve a lot of the time unless a pre authorization goes through and all sorts of BS, when the price for the med(s) shouldn't even be that high to begin with.

First thing I thought of was a negation with the cartel.

This is good news, medication needs to be available for everyone in the US at better rates, the insurance and big pharma team has been going on for too long.
We shall see what happens, something needs to change with the medical industrial complex in the USA. Its complete and utter BS. Their greed is pathetic and a product of corporate capitalism 100%. Keep you sick from birth is their plan and its working quite well. Never has obesity been so high in the history of man FFS. But its ok they have a pill for that now...
It's the right thing to do as they are gouging people rotten, but I'd be amazed if they pull it off. It'll still be exorbitant even after negotiations is my bet.

Trump cares about America and for that he has my respect. He has done a lot more than the last administration. I Haven't agreed with everything he has done but most of it.

It is very obvious people did not research into this situation.

But tell me what bills did his administration pass that directly benefits low income and middle class/working class families?.

The Biden administration passed the IRA which includes drug price caps for out of pocket, allows Medicare to negotiate drug prices. And it passed without Republican support because it was Kamala who had to cast the tie-breaking vote because Republicans don't give a fuck.

In 2026 negotiated drug prices will take effect with further expansion in 2028 and 2029, January 1st 2025 out of pocket cap already was put into place for part D Medicare. This was the Biden administration not Trump, but who will take credit for it next year? Trump and once again MAGA without doing any research will start drooling over it and praising Trump for Bidens work.
Big Pharma is another case where Americans are paying the bills of poorer foreign nations. Basically Drug Companies say they need to make their profit off Americans or else the drugs wouldn't be developed and that the drugs wouldn't be affordable in 3rd world countries.

The whole Health Care system in America is a huge massive mess. Made worse by Obamacare imho. ACA should be repealed.

It's good to see Trump once again championing a good cause for Americans. He worked hard on his first term too.
