David Hayter "Would Have Loved" A Redo With Metal Gear Solid Delta
David Hayter is always down to play Snake--whether it's Naked or Solid. But the voice actor does wish he had the chance to re-record lines for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the remake of the 2004 PS2 game.Speaking with Inverse, Hayter explained that he believes he could have improved some of his dialogue from the original game for the remake. "I do feel that I'm a little better of an actor now than I was then," said Hayter, with a laugh. "It was fine back in the day, but I would have loved to bring some of the knowledge that I've picked up over the past 20 years to it."Continue Reading at GameSpot

While I don't think there is anything wrong with using the original voice acting, I can see the appeal from a voice actor standpoint and or studio standpoint on redoing at least some of it. When it comes to games getting remastered or remade, it varies on what route the studio takes for such a thing and why. There are surely multiple factors at play such as budget, connections, if the game is a simple port or more of a deeper remaster / remake, etc.
It's like looking at your old work and wanting to tweak it with what you know now.
Still, his original performance is so iconic, I can’t imagine it any other way.
I'm sure that if he had another go at the lines, he could evoke the essence of the original while feeling fresh. He's extremely talented so I would've loved to hear redone lines.
The remake’s new features sound interesting.
But absence of cross-play feels like a backward step.

Yeah this is very much probably what it is or a large factor of such. Seems like an understandable reaction to have though.

I would have loved if they let him redo some lines, but I guess money issues.

Well I mean, companies are trying to not even hire voice actors anymore. They're attempting to just use AI.

Pathetic. It is crazy how many VAs have huge followings as well.

Yeah, it's getting quite sad in that regard.
It’s cool he wants to improve on his old work. Acting grows with time, and he clearly has learned a lot. Snake fans would be excited to hear it.

Exactly, it doesn't hurt 🤯
I wouldn't mind grabbing some Solid Gear Metal, I haven't played that in Ages.
