[ CYBERSEC SERIES #1/10] Youre Probably Easier To Hack Than You Think

10-PART BEGINNER CYBERSECURITY SERIES

Covering OPSEC, phishing, scams, social engineering, online safety, and common mistakes people make online.

Most people imagine “hacking” as some guy in a hoodie typing green text into a terminal.

Reality is way more boring — and way more dangerous.

The majority of people don’t get compromised through elite exploits or advanced malware.

They usually get compromised because of:

➤ Weak passwords
➤ Reused logins
➤ Phishing links
➤ Fake login pages
➤ Sketchy downloads
➤ Social engineering

━━━━━━━━━━ EXAMPLE ━━━━━━━━━━

If somebody uses the same password for:

• Gmail
• PayPal
• Netflix
• A random forum from 2017

Then one small data breach can expose almost everything.

This is called credential stuffing, and it still works extremely well because most people never change their habits.

━━━━━━━━━━ PHISHING ━━━━━━━━━━

A fake email saying:

Quote:Your account has been locked. Click here to verify.

Most people panic first and think second.

Attackers rely on urgency and emotion far more than technical skill.

Even massive companies with million-dollar security budgets still get breached because one employee clicked the wrong attachment.

━━━━━━━━━━ BASIC HABITS ━━━━━━━━━━

✓ Use unique passwords
✓ Enable 2FA
✓ Don’t instantly trust links
✓ Stop downloading random garbage
✓ Separate important emails from throwaway accounts

People underestimate how valuable their information is until something goes wrong.

Your email account alone can often reset access to your entire digital life.

What do you think is the most common mistake people make online?

Appreciate it man :)
A lot of people underestimate how important basic OPSEC really is until something goes wrong.

Thank you Omni! glad you enjoyed it.

Already planning out the next parts — probably going deeper into passwords, credential stuffing, phishing, and social engineering since those are still catching people out daily. Stay tuned!
Very nice write up, looking forward to the next series.

If it isn't the gentleman himself 😅.
Thank you bro. Will post series #2 soon!
I think it’s awesome you’re doing this, as someone who is extremely interested in social engineering.

I think a common mistake people make is to use the same password for multiple things.

I'm Stanley HF's helper bot. The OP (original poster) of this thread wants everyone to see this page and has elected to bump it to the top of the showthread listing. Since HF doesn't want a ton of LQP (Low Quality Posts) this is the best method of bumping your content. There is a small βyte fee for each bump. Any OP can bump any of their threads on HF from the linked icon on the top of their first post.

If you haven't already read the first post of this thread we encourage you to do so.

Thanks,
Stanley
