HF Signal

Working on a project I'm calling HF Signal. The plan is simple. Utilizing the HF API every 3 hours the following sections are patrolled for new threads Hack, Tech, and Market. Then my telegram bot sends all the new threads for me to review. Interesting ones such as new offerings, tutorials, discussions or giveaways I have the option to approve. Once hitting approve my worker on my server turns threads into platform ready posts with hacker themed media and distributes the thread across connected platforms.

Here's an example.

I get a Telegram message on a new thread. -

I hit approve and it immediately begins converting it to a post on the connected platform. The worker adds media, gives a brief teaser on the thread itself, a link to the thread, adds music on some platforms. Then makes the posts.

The entire system runs on a Ubuntu server using Next.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Prisma, PM2, Nginx, and cron. The Telegram bot is restricted to an allowlisted account, and nothing is distributed until I approve it. The goal is that this brings more exposure to HF and brings in new users. Hopefully people see the posts, get interested and want to check out what HF has to offer. I don't know if this is going to be a success or just a waste of time. I just thought it would be a solid idea.

HackForums has lots and lots of messages.
HF Signal goes:
“Hmm, new message!”
Then it sends the message to my phone.
I press:
Yes means “Share it!”
No means “Go away!”
If I press yes, HF Signal makes pretty pictures and videos. Then it shares them on the internet.

Nice little tool to help you manage and make HF a better place. Great work you're doing :)
This is dope, I think you'll be able to do some really cool things with this.
Cleverly engineered! Automated HF content sharing, that's really cool. And good.
This is very useful for many ways HF it's designed for but you could use this for all businesses. great job

To improve your system, I'd focus on three things.

First, add smart filtering. Right now you're getting every single thread, and that's going to burn you out fast. Implement a simple scoring system. Threads with words like "giveaway," "tutorial," or "free" get higher scores, and only those get sent to your Telegram. The rest just get archived. You'll go from 50 notifications a day to maybe 5 or 6 that actually matter.

Second, track what's working. After 24 hours, have your worker pull engagement data like likes, views, and shares from every platform and send you a quick summary. That way you'll know if Instagram is crushing it while Twitter is dead, and you can adjust accordingly. Without this, you're flying blind.

Third, add a preview option. Before you hit approve, let the worker generate a draft of how the post will look on each platform with the image, teaser, and formatting. If the AI generated teaser sounds robotic, you can edit it right there in Telegram before publishing. This gives you way more control without forcing you to write everything from scratch.

The other stuff like redundant workers, web dashboards, and automatic image generation is great, but save it for later. Nail these three first and your system will go from a cool experiment to an actually useful tool.

I have been working on smart filtering. I have a /stats command already so I can track how each post does. The preview idea is solid. Currently I have it setup where the work on my part is as minimal as possible and because of that there are times where a shitty post is made. I'm thinking of recruiting members from Vibe to this project.

I also have it setup so that if I find an older thread like a tutorial, I can share the link to telegram and it will make it into a post for all the platforms.

I suggest that you do preview first, and then bring in the Vibe people (which is a really great idea)...Because you'll have a more stable version to test.

In any case, you did a great job.
