What do blackhats actually gain?

I'm not talking about the ones you hear on the news, but the many others who attack individuals. It seems to me that most of the time the risk greatly outways the potential positives. Are there other motives other than money for the actual skilled blackhats that target individuals? Ego? Power? Knowledge?

Absolutely nothing, always comes back and bites me in the arse.
Money, fear, respect and often just the joy of a successful attack.

Leverage, money, sense of accomplishment.

It just depends on who the target is relative to the attacker.
Financial freedom or a 10-year federal sentence, with very little middle ground. The Hollywood trope died a long time ago—it’s just an industry with terrible retirement benefits.
Some people just do things because they can... That's part of being human, whether it's good or bad. Most of the time black hats are after financial gain or clout.
Prison sentences.

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow; but eventually they come for you. Whether you think you're too big, too small, too safe; nobody can out-resource law enforcement.
I don't understand how blackhats still exist when our entire internet and devices are all being watched by the government, LOL.
