C#
The Basics:
- C# is a multi-paradigm programming language used all over the world.
- Visual C# is the most commonly used implementation of C#.
-"C#" was created by Microsoft and was approved as a standard by Ecma.
- The leader of the C# development team is Anders Hejlsberg. Currently, the latest version of C# is "C# 4.0".

If you have ever programmed in Visual Basic the C# IDE will look extremely familiar to you. Thats because, for the most part, it is.

Everything you need to begin coding in C# comes packed together with a little ribbon on it. You can compile your programs, create your programs, and debug your programs, all from the IDE.

C# vs Visual Basic
There is a lot of controversy over which is a better language. To put it plain and simple, the answer is, neither.
Visual Basic and C# both have extremely different syntax. I personally feel C# has a more organized a professional syntax compared to Visual Basic, but I also feel Visual Basic has a neater, easier to comprehend syntax. The syntax difference is not an argument momentous proportion.
Syntax differences:
If Statements:
C#
Code
{
if (textBox1.Text == "Hackforums")
{
MessageBox.Show("Syntax Differences Example!");
}
else
{
MessageBox.Show("Do You See Them?");
}
}Visual Basic:
Code
If TextBox1.Text = "Hackforums" Then
MessageBox.Show("Syntax Differences")
Else
MessageBox.Show("Do You See Them?")
End IfSo, whether you prefer C# syntax or VB syntax, it is mainly personal preference.
From a comparison article:
Code
Features of C# not found in Visual Basic .NET
-Allows blocks of unsafe code (like C++/CLI) via the unsafe keyword.
-Partial Interfaces
-Iterators and the yield keyword
-Multi-line comments (note that the Visual Studio IDE supports multi-line commenting for Visual Basic .NET)
-Static classes (Classes which cannot contain any non-static members, although VB's Modules are essentially sealed static classes with additional semantics)
-Can use checked and unchecked contexts for fine-grained control of overflow/underflow checkingWhen choosing between C# and Visual Basic, mainly, it is always personal preference. However, while coding in C#, you will notice it is very similar to Java. So, if you plan on working in java, it may help to learn C#.
