Problems Within the Graphics Section

Problems Within the Graphics Section

Hello,

Today I would like to address all the issues that currently reside within the Graphics section/tab.

Most people I'm sure have noticed the increase in activity lately. While this helps us, it also brings forth a few issues. Recently, people have been posting in the incorrect section consistantly. Many people seem to overlook the individual sections, and post in sections that do not directly pertain to that which they're posting about.

For example:

https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=1016299
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=1008660
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=1017174
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=1012483
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=474067

Secondly, there's also the huge problem with gravedigging. Gravedigging (Or necroposting) has become increasingly regular in the Graphics section. Posts all the way back from 2009 are being dug up on a far too regular basis.

For example:

https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=94536
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=226564
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=93639
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=205121
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=38133
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=235494

Third, (as many of you have probably noticed) threads in the graphic battles section are for all intensive purposes, open ended. Unless a Staff member intervenes and closes a thread (usually upon request) the battle will basically go on forever. Staff are obviously much too busy to deal with every single battle thread in the section, which is why most are never closed. A lot of times, these threads come back to the problem of gravedigging. Battles from a year ago that were never closed, constantly come back to haunt us.

For example:

https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=886597
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=93639
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=94536
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=1003320
https://hackforums.net/showthread.php?tid=607006 [This one was FINALLY closed, after a total of 304 votes.]

Those are just the notable ones, there are an essentially unlimited supply of battle threads that are still technically "open".

Probably one of the most noteworthy of all, is the flaming. As it is on every graphic forum, there are many who can't accept criticism. People retaliate, sometimes by personally insulting another person (usually about their graphic skills). It happens on an almost daily basis. Some people do not know how to rate a signature. But there is a stickied thread by Tasemu which can be found HERE. A majority of the users fail to view this thread, or take its advice.

For example:

A member will tell a user that their signature needs work, and the other member will complain or insult the user giving constructive criticism.
A member will randomly tell another user that their portfolio is terrible, and they have no skill as an artist.
A member will act like they're high and mighty, and become enraged when others tell him/her to stop being so arrogant.
A member will call another user out in a graphic battle, and start arguments that can often get out of hand.
A member will flat out say that the piece sucks, which leads to all sorts of things.

Now, a lot of times I miss some of these problems, therefore not being able to report them in time. When I do attempt to report them, they are often more than 48 hours old. This is constantly a problem. However, most of the time, the thread is not urgent enough to bother a Staff member about.

In conclusion, something needs to be done about these problems, or they will continue to expand as the forum does.

Please feel free to post your thoughts and opinions.

Thank you for reading,

Buzz Lightyear
Agreed wholeheartedly, something needs to be done about it.

Especially the wrong forum posting, and neverending graphic battles. It's ludicrous how often it happens.
I agree with this thread, 100%.
What do you expect to be done with a massive amount of problems occurring in the Graphics section?
I think awareness is the best thing you can do. Get people to append it in their signatures, have threads like this one. Report the posts you can and perhaps even PM the offending member.

I don't want to suggest a moderator be added for it; because if I suggest that it will surely be denied.
I would suggest going on a reporting rampage, and report all faults you come across.

I see posts like this, just not in the graphics section. people post in the wrong sections and threads that need closing, that don't get closed. It happens around the forums quite a bit. I'm not sure what else we can do to prevent them, rather than just reporting. I won't bother suggesting my idea to help solve this, maybe when the suggestions are open, you could provide more detailed of a solution. But I agree 100%
As long as you are raising awareness that is good!

I have noticed a few issues in the tab.
I agree with this. I've noticed so many problems like these. Nice thread!

Quit mind fucking people. At least wear a condom for them dirty minds.

Wonder if Omni is aware of this yet.
Some of these problems are very true,
Thank you Buzz Lightyear for pointing them out to staff.

You need to learn my ways. ;)

I'm sure Omni has heard about it at least once.
Though I don't visit the Graphics section much, I agree that gravedigging has become a problem, and it's ridiculous.

A new rule? Yes.

I support.

Another topic I'd like to address, the GFX guru award is given out like it's candy. To people that don't even have any GFX skill or make good rippers.

Actually, I think that gravedigging, to and extent, is disallowed.

so what's the point of the thread...?
to get people to agree?
we already agree bro, there's no reason to point out the obvious.
The fact is, you can't do anything about.

The staff are too busy taking care of real business.
