Disallow Posting Of "Crack Mes" in The Visual Basic/C# Section

As the thread title says it would be a great idea to remove the posting of Crack Mes in the Visual Basic/C# section, all they do is flood the section up and the point of them has been lost as all they are is basic protection covered up by obfuscation. The section has been flooded by them completely if you take a look you'll notice 10-20 threads of CrackMes within the first two pages. It isn't a Reverse Engineering section it is a coding section.

I support this, I'm sick and tired of seeing dumbass crackmes.
I agree with this, although people may use it to improve their security, the vast majority of the crackmes are simply obfuscated, and thus the crackme is rendered useless.
I agree with this to a certian point as most of the crack me's posted (not all of them) but most of them are only simple patch me's covered by obfuscators as OP said so! allthough it would be nice to start a poll where we could vote to have a reverse engineering section added to the forum?

I do agree with Deceptive on some parts. I don't have a problem with the volume of crackme threads here, but I do have a problem if they're pathetic, just a simple IF statement OR a brute-force. I think it's great for legitimate people to test their security (ONCE OR TWICE) and that is it. If a crackme from a user gets cracked, then they should not make any subsequent crackme threads they must accept their security is shit.

I don't wan't crackme applications to be banned, I just think we need them regulated by a person who actually knows his stuff and is extremely proficient in the art of cracking .NET applications. This person also needs to be available a lot more.

Maybe instead of disallowing them entirely we could have a reverse engineering section.

+1,

Maybe add a .NET reverse engineering section would be good as i and im sure more people do enjoy having a 'crack' at crack me's but totally banning them is not good imo
I agree. These are getting annoying and the forum shouldn't be flooded with this!

There is a site for for crack mes and the VB.NEt/C# section isn't one D:<
To be honest, they should be in the White Hat Help section, or their own private section.

It seems we only use that forum for the the second part. I have yet to see someone asking about a site nor a crack-me. Or at least that I remember. Plus then we can post "crack-me"s for other programming languages as well, perhaps a subsection in White Hat Help, or just a rule in the Vb/C# section to post them in the White Hat Help section.

Thank you for your opinion, I'm glad others see the problem with them.
I'm all for this thread, but I disagree on the suggestion that it should be moved to the White Hat Help section.

Are you insane?

That means you consider the below as the first part:

Quote:Wanna stop the Black Hats and Crackers?

If a medium of stopping the above is to move the said programs into the section then you are truly confused. Cracking does not fit the criteria. Reverse engineering may at least be considerable, but the possibility of it being used to crack paid programs instead of reversing malicious files is very high. I believe that is one of the main reasons for Omniscient's disapproval for such a section.

I have seen quite a number asking for help about a compromised site. I suppose you mean "or". Again, that is not the place for that.

You must be thinking that members of this forum will use that knowledge for a good purpose. That is a bit disappointing, personally, since you are an HJT Team member and I expect that you know what is going on here.

For simply the purpose of organization, I'd say it should be moved to a "neutral" section -- say, the Beginner Hacking section, perhaps? The move would mean that how they use whatever they learn there is within their discretion. The site will assume no responsibility for any actions. I think moving it to a claimed "white hat" section will not do its image and definition good. As much as the original poster does not wish for such programs to stay in a coding section (perhaps even the coding tab) I, too, believe it should not reside in the White Hat Help section or the computing tab for that matter.
Why are people always pushing for topics to be disallowed, then so many people complain when action is finally taken.

I showed evidence with a screen shot, I normally NEVER complain about a trend, but this trend is just going WAY to far. It's becoming more popular than market place shell booters used to be.
