School Days' Overflow Confirms It Is Making Its Last Title

Visual novel maker to still support its titles; Shiny Days delayed to end of April
Overflow, the game label of the developer Stack and the creator of the original School Days game, confirmed on Friday that its upcoming game Shiny Days will be its last title. (Shiny Days is a modified update of the School Days spinoff Summer Days.) Overflow additionally noted that it is not going bankrupt, and it will continue to support its existing titles.

Overflow also announced it is delaying its release of Shiny Days from February 24 to the end of April. Overflow stated on its official website that it is delaying the game so it can create a better quality game that will satisfy fans.

Overflow's School Days adult game was adapted into a 12-episode television anime series in 2007, and then into two original video anime spinoffs in 2008. The story follows the love triangle that develops when a boy enlists his close female friend to help him attract the attention of a girl in their same school. The anime gained unexpected media attention when its final episode was preempted by a real-life axe murder in Japan. Instead of the final episode, the television stations aired a series of unrelated scenery images and the following text: "The programming has changed due to certain circumstances." The substituted boat scenery images led to the "nice boat" catchphrase that has spread throughout the overseas anime fandom and even into Japan.

The media-distribution website Crunchyroll began streaming the television anime in North America in 2009.

JAST USA announced last year that it would release the School Days HQ game in English that year, but its official website now notes that the game will come out in 2012. The official Twitter account for the game reported earlier this week that the game is currently in testing.

Sentai Filmworks Confirms English Dub of Gintama: The Movie

Sentai Filmworks confirmed with ANN on Friday that it will include an English dub on its upcoming release of Gintama: The Movie (Gintama: Shinyaku Benizakura-Hen) on DVD and Blu-ray Disc, noting its policy to dub titles it releases on Blu-ray Disc. Sentai Filmworks added that the English dub cast has not been set yet, but Kyle Jones will be directing the dub.

Sentai Filmworks announced on Thursday that it acquired the action comedy film, and the company will release it digitally before it receives a home video release on DVD and Blu-ray Disc later this year.

The 95-minute feature retells a story from the Gintama television series, which is set in an alternate version of Tokyo that Amanto aliens have invaded. Former samurai Gintoki Sakata investigates the disappearance of a legendary sword named Benizakura, while his partners Kagura and Shinpachi Shimura try to find out what happened to Gintoki's friend, Kotaro Katsura.

Gintama: The Movie is currently the only theatrical anime adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi's bestselling manga series. The film opened in limited release (90 screens) in Japan in April 2010, and then had its international premiere in Montreal in July of that year. The first film eventually earned 1.07 billion yen (about US$12.86 million) at the box office. Sentai Filmworks already licensed the television anime series, and Section23 Films released the first 49 episodes on DVD.

7-Meter-Tall New LovePlus Girlfriends Loom Over Akihabara

Giant AR girls offer chocolates to celebrate virtual girlfriend simulator's release
To celebrate the Valentine's Day release of Konami's New LovePlus virtual girlfriend simulator, 7-Eleven's Akihabara Center Place convenience store branch placed giant augmented-reality (AR) markers on its front windows. When viewed from the camera of a Nintendo 3DS or a compatible smartphone, a 7.11-meter-tall (about 23-foot-tall) girl from New LovePlus appears. One of three different super-sized girlfriends extends her hands to offer chocolates, in the tradition of Valentine's Day in Japan. The giant AR markers will stay up until Sunday.

About 300 people waited in the early morning drizzle to be the first to buy the game at the nearby Yodobashi Akiba store.
