Hey AA, it's time for our weekly poll. For this one we are having a demographic showdown!
Last week's poll results:
Most people on AA buy their Manga and like to support the creators!
This week's poll: Which is your favorite anime demographic?
This poll may be straightforward for some, but if you have no idea what any of these Demographic terms mean, read the spoilers regarding each below :)
Shounen
Shounen literally means "boy" and shounen anime are generally aimed at boys with ages ranging from around 10 through the early teenage years. Popular shounen genres include Action, Adventure, and Ecchi. Example shounen anime include Bleach, Death Note, High School of the Dead, and Love Hina.
Shojo
Shojo literally means "little female" and shoujo anime are generally aimed at girls with ages ranging from around 12 through the early teenage years. This doesn't have genres as clear-cut as Shounen, however you will generally find anime in this demographic focus on Character relationships, often romantically. Example shojo anime include Fruits Basket, Ouran High School Host Club, Kaichou Wa-Maid Sama, and Kimi ni Todoke.
Seinen
Seinen literally means "young man" and seinen anime are generally aimed at males in the later teenage years and above (say around 15 or so). Unlike shounen, seinen anime has a stronger focus on plot and less on action. There are many romance seinen, however, unlike shojo they are more realistic and less ideal. Example Seinen anime include: Elfen Lied, Ah My Goddess!, Chobits, and Angel Beats!
Josei
Josei literally means "young woman" and josei anime are generally aimed at females in the later teenage years and above (say around 15 or so). Josei anime are pretty realistic and focus on the lives of adult women in Japan most of the the time, although sometimes you may find Josei anime set in High School. You will also find most Yaoi in this category. Examples of Josei include: Honey and Clover, Paradise Kiss, Nodame Cantabile, and Princess Jellyfish.
Feel free to leave a comment as to why you picked what you picked. This is not a debate thread. Poll is public and single choice only. Poll will close in 5 days.
Sorry for the late AA Poll, today was the first time I've had access to my main computer since thursday ^_^"
Know a good poll topic? PM me or PM Sp3ctr3 and your topic may (actually almost probably will, we're running out of ideas; SERIOUSLY, pm us) be the next AA poll!
Voted Sienen, because I have loved pretty much everything under this category so far. If I could vote for 2, my second would be Shojo. Yea thats right, I'm a 12 year old girl.
PS: not really
I voted Seinen because it is just what I mainly watch. Plus I am in my teen years. #relatable.

Josei > Shoujo > Seinen > Shounen. I'm not seeing Angel Beats! as being Seinen though, it has all the characteristics of a Shounen.
I voted Shojo, second choice would have been Josei. To be honest I feel like a girl in a man's body sometimes D:
I wish I could do all of the above but I chose seinen, as I mostly go for the plot.

While it does have a lot of action, it focuses more on the plot and character relationships rather than the action itself so it's technically Seinen, but it could be seen either way I suppose.

A good point, I guess I'm just used to seeing Seinen as shows like Aki-Sora, Hanasaku Iroha, and Bartender.
It differs greatly between anime and manga on this one. A generic shounen anime is in my opinion downright annoying (although nowadays almost anything action related gets labelled shounen, so this is not infallible), while shounen manga can be quite entertaining on the other hand.
As for a generic shoujo.. Well there are a few good titles out there, but as with shounen, most are just too absurdly aimed at straight teenage females to appeal to me.. This applies to both anime and manga, although more evident in manga as I see it.
Josei.. Well Higashi no Eden was pretty god damn good being the only josei anime I've watched, acknowledgedly at least. Can't say I've read a lot of josei manga, so I can't really comment on that one.
I voted for seinen this time, as I've probably watched and read the most from this demographic. I for one like the gruesome, horror type manga, most of which are labelled seinen. Most comedy seinen series are also far better than the rest, although this is also not infallible.
Demographics vary from so many types and kinds of anime and manga, telling them apart has become a real pain..
I have nothing more to say.

Yeah, some of these are hard to distinguish. For example chobits seems like a shojo anime because it mainly focuses on an ideal romance, but because of the ecchi and the fact that the main character is a male makes it seinen.

DO NOT DEAL WITH THIS MEMBER
I honestly can't choose. I hardly ever pay attention to a mangas target audience. I just like what I like. I've read mostly shounen but that's just a coincidence. I haven't disliked anything that's Seinen either... In fact, one of my favorite mangas (or manhwa rather) is Seinen... I'll go with Seinen. lol
I'll have to pick Shounen because fuck Romance-Comedies.
I like both Sienen and Shounen but voted for Shounen .
If I could vote, my vote would be in for shōjo. Fuck harems, one path, one love, take it to the moon.
