'Walpurgis no Yoru no Yume' Orchestral Concert To Be Held In The Name Of Madoka Magica

A Puella Magi Madoka Magica-themed orchestral concert will be held at the Ichō Hall at the Hachioji City Art & Cultural Hall in Tokyo on April 6. A symphony of approximately 70 amateur musicians under the name "Walpurgis Night/Die Walpurgisnacht Symphoniker" will perform the concert.

The orchestra is not directly affiliated with the anime series, but it has received consent for the concert from Sony Music Publishing, and is complying with Nitroplus' derivative work guidelines as well as all Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers (JASRAC) formalities.

The "Walpurgis no Yoru no Yume" (The Dream of the Walpurgis Night) concert will feature 15 songs from the television anime series, including the theme songs for all five main characters, which have been arranged for the orchestra.

Tickets to the concert will be free, and will be given out starting at 10:00 a.m. on the day of the concert. The concert itself will start at 5:30 p.m. Kenichi Shimura will conduct the orchestra and MIZ will be the concert mistress. Shimura in the past has conducted for the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra, Saint Petersburg Academic Symphony Orchestra, and Tokyo New City Orchestra.

Ultra HD Anime in 2014

The future of anime will never be brighter with this recent announcement made by the Japanese Government. Anime available in 3840×2160 aka. 2160p will be available in 2014. That's right torrent-ers, anime that was one 40GB for a series, will now be around 100GB. Phew, better get a good connection.

Initially, the plan for the UHD anime was to release in 2016, but this has been brought forward to 2014 to co-exist with the Brazil World Cup. The “Ultra Hi-Vision” 2160p broadcasts will start on Japan’s “BS” and “CS” satellite channels, then this will move over to digital TV. The more surprising thing is that this is being released in two stages. There is the formally mentioned UHD also known as 4UHD, but NHK has mentioned it would prefer to switch straight to 8UHD, due to the cost and complexity of shuffling everything around. What is 8UHD you ask? 8 Ultra-High Definition is 4320p, or 7680 x 4320.

One thing for sure is, I'm excited by this switch and can't wait to see what anime will look like in the next few years. The next few years could define Visuals as we know it.

Animate's Interactive Moe Mascot

Akihabara's Animate store introduced an interactive moe mascot on Tuesday. Named Sasara Satō, she was developed by CeVIO, a company specializing in User-Generated Content (UGC).

Sasara, a life-sized original character within the store's digital signage, has an interactive voice that can even respond to visitors when they speak to her. She also will announce information about ANIMATE to customers without prompting. There are also future plans for her to participate in stage and music events

On the day of Sasara's unveiling, the staff responded to questions about her. When asked about her voice actress, the staff replied that the voice actress will remain anonymous. They also stated their hopes to place a unit similar to Sasara in Animate's flagship Ikebukuro store too, as well as create new outfits for her.

CeVio is a new project that backs and supports the creation of user-generated content. The iniative currently developing an easy-to-use software that would allow users to synthesize both speaking voices and singing voices with an abundant range of emotions. A free downloadable version of the product will be available by the end of February. A packaged retail version is also planned to be released by the beginning of summer.

Aya Hirano is now a Vocaloid

Well it definitely sounds that way. Hirano who is always on the verge of scandals, has prompted one this time with her new imitating song. The song is in a very obvious style of a vocaloid, but sounds... worse. Much worse infact. This new approach has upset the dying fanbase she originally gained through her superiority in the voice acting world; the fame seems to have hit her, but in all the wrong ways. She neither sounds the same or looks the same. What's the next trend for Aya?

Comiket 84 & 85 To Accept Kuroko no Basket Circles

The Comic Market Preparations Committee, the group responsible for organizing the largest dōjinshi event in the world, announced on Saturday that the next Comiket events will accept Kuroko's Basketball circles barred from last month's Comiket 83. Circles disqualified from participating in the December 29-31 event can apply for this year's Comiket 84 and 85. Moreover, these circles will receive priority application processing.

The committee said that it will no longer refuse applications from circles that focus on a specific genre or work. However, it noted that regulations may change in the future, depending on requests from the Tokyo Big Sight event hall staff or the police. The committee also apologized for inconveniences caused by the previous barring of Kuroko's Basketball dōjinshi, goods, and other materials from Comiket events.

Comiket 84 is scheduled to run from August 10 to August 12, while Comiket 85 is planned for December. Comiket 84 began accepting mailed circle participation applications on December 28, and that registration period will close on February 5. The online application process will run from January 29 to February 19.

Since October, more than 30 locations linked to Kuroko's Basketball manga creator Tadatoshi Fujimaki have received threat letters with powdered and liquid substances. Several Kuroko's Basketball dōjinshi events throughout Japan were cancelled in the aftermath of the threats. A source in the investigation of the threats said there is a high possibility that the liquid sent to Sophia University (Fujimaki's alma mater) on October 12 could emit a lethal dose of hydrogen sulfide if vaporized.

Now it's just to wait and see what kind of bio-terrorism the perpetrator will resort to this time.

Additionally Comic City Tokyo 131, a dōjinshi event scheduled for this Sunday, will allow Kuroko's Basketball circles, even though the Big Sight staff asked the organizers to reconsider. Despite this, the Big Sight staff is allowing the event to continue, although the staff made the event's organizers promise to “take complete responsibility and implement the ultimate countermeasures for the safety of the attendees.”

On the other hand, the organizers of Double Clutch, a Kuroko's Basketball dōjinshi event scheduled for February 10, complied with Big Sight's request to cancel the event. Double Clutch organizers had repeatedly rejected the requests, but later complied due to concerns for their customers' safety. Unlike Comic Market and Comic City, Double Clutch was dedicated only to Kuroko's Basketball.

Yukari Tamura Sings Hentai Ōji to Warawanai Neko Opening Theme

The official website for voice actress Yukari Tamura announced on Monday that her unnamed 23rd single will be the opening theme song for the Hentai Ōji to Warawanai Neko TV anime series. Tamura is also playing the girl known as the ”King of Steel" in the anime itself, which will premiere this April. The single will go on sale in Japan on April 17.

The light novels center around a second-year high school boy named Yōto Yokodera. Yōto is always thinking about his "carnal desires," but no one acknowledges him as a pervert. He learns about a cat statue that supposedly grants wishes. The boy goes to pray that he will be able to express his lustful thoughts whenever and wherever he wants. At the statue, Yōto encounters Tsukiko Tsutsukakushi, a girl from his high school with her own wish — that she would not display her "real intentions" so readily. Tamura's character (pictured below) is the strong-willed head of Yōto's track team.

Digital Manga released the first volume of Okomeken's manga adaptation in North America last month.

This is really interesting, thanks! The 8UHD visual stuff looks really cool, can't wait.
Really nice work keep it up. I saw my thread was included. <3
Thanks for the mention of animeFAN! I owe you one.

Also, Never agreed with the Hyouka romance tag. It does but not between the main character. Well not yet anyway.

Great issue. Some of them threads I totally missed. Thanks. ^^
Really interesting news Raksasha~ The Ultra HD I'm curious to see how much of a difference things will look. I hope they don't go the full 3D route. That will be a total let down for anime. Actually quite surprised that the animeFAN! Forum was added to this post. =D

It won't be full 3D from what I can tell, will just look really awesome:

Looks soo much better. Didn't think it would but it does.
Yet another great Anime Adventures Weekly report. Can't believe Aya Hirano became a Vocaloid. Ugh it just sounds terrible compared to all the other Vocaloids. AAW is always my source for news on Japan :)
Great weekly report, I loved hyouka so nice highlight. The ending didn't satisfy me though. Either way thanks for the news letter :D

Don't worry about it. You can count me in from the sidelines, I'll be there to see this project through 'till the end ^^

Hyouka did promote romance though, so you can't completely dispel it. The scene with Chitanda and Oreki under the sakura, it did quite obviously have romantic undertones.

Anyway thanks for the support guys.
Very nice, Rakshasa. I haven't been watching anime or looking at news about it for a while so this is really informative.
If she ain't got cake, I don't want to eat.
So the voice actor for the track team leader is also singing the opening theme? Sweet :3

Another great issue Rak! Gonna need a bigger hard drive for the UHD...

Ah, the UHD one was Happeh's article. I hadn't heard too much about it myself.

Thanks though.
Nice job, sir.

Going to try to catch those UHD anime on commercial TV when they come out.
Going to look pretty damn good, I assume.
I'm not quite sure we're ready for 4K/8K yet. With current prices you're looking at ~$5,000 - $10,000 just for a monitor, not to mention the size will be >500GB for your standard 12-episode anime series with movies ranging from 200 - 300GB each.

Better stock up on your HDDs everyone (and prepare to upgrade your computer.)
Maybe in the next 10 years I'll be ready Twisted. 2023 here I come.

Nice cupcakes Happeh and Rakshasa!
