Hello, writing this fast. Bought a new cpu, Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400. Removed the cooler, new cpu in it's place, little bit of artic silver 5 on it and then the cooler back in it's place. The cpu is now 97 temp. DAFUQ?

Help me fast, don't think this is any good.. Thanks.

My guess is that you didn't apply the thermal paste correctly, or the cooler isn't seated properly. Did you remove all of the old TIM from the CPU cooler?

Howdy,

If your talking 97°C degrees Celsius, then that's awful

If your talking 97°F Fahrenheit, then that's pretty good

IF its Celsius:

Any time you take off the heat-sink and put it back on

You need to use new thermal paste. Maybe look into getting

a good after market air cooler too, never run it when the

cpu temps are this high, they should be at around 30-40

Degrees C at idle and 60-70 C under load.

Maybe you used to much thermal paste, i never use it unless the surface isn't flat.
