I've never seen a thread like this, maybe because you guys don't read any books, or maybe because this is very simple, but in this tutorial I will try to cover everything you need and any errors you may find when trying to download an eBook straight to your iDevice.
You can also use this to just download books to your computer, not sure about Kindles though.
You do need to download iBooks before trying to download the books, since otherwise there will not be any place to store it. As of now, no browsers besides Safari work for this, but it doesn't take that long so if you don't like Safari, you aren't really being tortured.
Let's say I wanted to download The Hunger Games.
First, go to a site that provides direct .ePub downloads, like
http://bookos.org/ which is the one I will be using. Out of every site I have used, this one has the most available books.
Simply search the book you are wanting to download.

As you can see, some of the links were deleted, but we got lucky so we still have got one that we can use, and we're even luckier because it is in ePub format.
Now, all you have to do is press download, and then wait until your URL bar fills up completely. This is what it should look like after you have downloaded the book.

It looks like you are completely done and can dig into the book right away, but there is one last step. You HAVE TO hit "Open in iBooks", otherwise it will not show up.
Most of the time it just takes a few simple steps, but other times, it isn't that easy. Lets say I wanted to download The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor.
As you can see, both of the links on this site have been deleted, and we can assume that I have searched everywhere else.

In this case, you will need to download a different type of file with the book on your computer, and then transfer it over to your iDevice manually.
Like I said, I'm not sure if this will really help anyone, but the iPad is really good for reading, especially when you don't have the Internet. Definitely feel free to ask any questions you might have.
