Netflix & Hulu Section

Now, don't get me wrong. I love helping in this section, but it has become very painful to see such leeching in this forum.

Problem:

I'm pretty sure Omniscient didn't want this section to become what it is now. It's a spam pool for new members to rack up post to get to 10 or just to rack up some post for whatever. However that breaks a the rule of spam posting. Check these threads:

Linux-0

Strongbrid13

WeDoIt24

This thread is a prime example of members just creating an account just to get an account. Go through the posts and you'll see how many of them signed up an account and immediately request a Netflix/Hulu account.

Hulu Plus Accounts!

Solution:

Most members want to see this section pruned because of its incredible amounts of LQP. I think there's potential in this subforum still. The easiest way to save this section is just editing the description:
  • "This section is for the tutorials of making Netflix accounts or Hulu accounts and discussion of movies that these companies offer".

Then junking everyone's request threads to clean the section up. Yes, this will remove a lot of activity in this section, but the section is already dying. Instead of letting it die and pruning it why not turn it into something positive? When the description is made and the junking is complete the section will have a chance to prosper with threads like this:

How this helps

This helps because it'll stop a lot of spam posts and unnecessary threads being made. Now members can use these sections to get Netflix or Hulu accounts.

This is a really good suggestion sir.
It will be good if Omni does what you suggested.

I voted yes on the poll sir, I'm sure when other members see this thread they will also vote yes.

Kind regards,

There isn't enough threads for a new subforum.
Nice suggestion. :) There could also be a fix for only upgrade members or 25+ posts to post in the section. :)

Are you saying that in the sense as there will never be enough threads for a subforum?

Trust me man, give people a chance. Nothing ever started up instantly.

Unfortunately that's not an option for Omniscient.

I totally agree with you Reptar. I'm sure Omniscient will take a look at it.

First off, VERY nice job with the layout; looks great.

Anyways, I think this is a great idea. It's ridiculous how many times I see people with 2 posts that just signed up on HF asking for Netflix accounts and other crap. Apparently they don't even know how to use the search bar.
But i think this would help out a lot as far as this situation goes. I've been looking for a method on how to get accounts, but can't find a thread on it because of all these stupid posts.

Nicely done with this thread, and i hope things go according to it.
Thanks, Reptar!

Nothing is going to be done about this because Omniscient just doesn't care about the spam in that section. At least that's the impression I have because I have created a feedback thread before and it was never closed.

FYI, 1 post members making request threads is not considered low quality, so do NOT report as such.

FYI, 1 member's thread requesting a Netflix/Hulu account with 1 post is considered low quality. Don't report it as such, but consider it as such.

I personally believe that all movie discussions can go in the parent forum and the Netflix and Hulu sub-forum should be removed completely.

This would be the best outcome to end this chapter of HF.

This section needs to be ended.
You guys need to also realize that if this section is removed people will be asking for these accounts all over the forum. This section isolates this in one area.

Without these request threads the section is dead.

Request threads can be posted in the VIP section anyway.

The subforum is already basically dead from all the leeching threads and a max of 5 threads are made a day.

Now, if you think this way the Windows 8, RT and Surface subforum is the same way. Omniscient isn't going to close that section because people still use it. We prune this section there's no longer any subforum to discuss Netflix or Hulu.

Any of our opinions on what is considered low quality don't matter. Staff have the final say on it and I was told by a staff member not to report those threads as they are technically legitimate posts under current HF rules, not low quality posts unless they bypass the 35 character limit.
