Hello, I just bought a brand new rack mount server and it's to loud!

How do I turn it down?

Thanks :)

Servers are designed to be maintained inside an air-conditioned room.
If you are running it, inside your garage or in a not well ventilated room.
Expect the FAN to be a lot louder.
Yeah same :P I've got a 10 year old server in the garage it's loud as fuck.. Seriously!

Switching it off might help.

Thanks, James.
Servers are designed to run efficient. You shouldn´t run it where it needs to be quiet...
Rack servers aren't meant to be quiet computers in the first place, Rack servers are meant to be in air conditioned rooms where it's loud anyways so it wouldn't matter if it is quiet or loud in the first place.
In addition, turning down the fan is a terrible idea, it will lead to a premature failure of the hardware due to overheating.
Move it to somewhere well ventilated, that should keep the heat down and make the fans run less. Or just move it to somewhere that no one goes.
Yep it's going to be really loud. It will also cost you about $35 a month to run it.

So do yourself a favor and just turn it off.
