I. Introduction:
Welcome to my tutorial on how to decrypt a hash!
This guide is written for beginners who have no clue on how to decrypt a hash.
If there are any questions left, don't hestitate to ask me right away.
II. Determine the hash type:
You found some random gibberish in the net and someone said you have to decrypt it?
Don't worry. Determining the type of your hash isn't that hard.
In fact, it's pretty easy and you will learn by doing.
If you want to learn a bit, I suggest you reading this: Cryptography
If you want to skip this part, then check this site to compare the hashes to your hash: Link
In my opinion, this is the best overview over the most common hash types: Hash thread
If you still have no clue what type of hash you got, you should try out THIS program.
I'm not sure if it comes with Backtrack by default, but you should give it a try if the information above didn't help you.
Now that you finally found the type of your hash, we can move on and decrypt it.
III. How to decrypt a hash:
We will use three things to decrypt a hash:
- Passwords Pro [Download link]
- Wordlist (also called dictionary)

- Your hash

I will follow every step with an example. I'm going to use the MD5 "ad3dd2ebd28e5d7f81ec326fbdf1fa7b"
Step 1:
Open PasswordsPro Spoiler (Click to View)
Step 2:

Right click in the empty box and choose Add... Spoiler (Click to View)
Step 6:
Fill in the hash and choose the hash type.
If you don't want to get confused, you can use a username for better organization. Spoiler (Click to View)
Step 7:
Click on the Run/Start button and let the dictionary attack begin!
You will get a notification when the hash is decrypted, congratulations! Spoiler (Click to View)
Final words:
Thank you for reading my tutorial!
This tutorial was written for beginners and I hope it was useful for some of you.
If you can't decrypt a hash with a wordlist, try to get another wordlist.
You can use a bruteforce attack aswell, but this is taking too much time in my opinion.
If you found any bigger mistakes, let me know.
Have a nice day everyone.
