Synopsis
The story is set on a high school that the student council president Satsuki
Kiryuuin rules by force. Wielding a giant Basami scissors sword, the
wandering transfer student Ryuuko Matoi brings about upheaval on the
campus. Ryuuko searches for the mysterious figure who caused her father's
death, but confronting her are the student council's "four divine kings."
Fortunately, Ryuuko is aided by a talking sailor uniform who tells her, "Wear
me. When I am worn by you, this power will become manifest."

Opinion
Well just watched first episode and i cant more satisfied, meet almost all
expectations, Art style, Voice Acting, Soundtrack were all great.
They have a funny ditsy side character (Mako <3) and MC is completely bad ass

+ Her uniform <3 that too.

1st ep was great. I love the art style. I didn't expect comedy, but it had some pretty funny parts in it ^^

Same boat with ags on this. I was expecting a much more fierce theme. Really it reminds me of FLCL in so many ways. The off art-style, the random humor, etc.

Am I the only one who saw the negative in this first episode...

Animation was far too off and could really be defined as American Cartoons rather than anywhere close to an anime.
The story accelerated way too fast and took itself too seriously with no character attachment time
The concept of uniforms and what not is good however the execution was poorly done
The voice acting was bland across the board
The characters so far are entirely unrelatable unless you yourself have had your father killed with scissors or are just a total idiot like the sleeping girl.

The animation needs to improve as even the scenes that look good are still overly simplified by the animation and holds no semblance to enjoyable violence. This anime needed to spend more time on episode and possibly span it to two episodes to give more time for character and environmental introduction. As of episode one and possibly the rest of the episodes this anime is and will continue to be utter garbage.

I am utterly shocked and mystified that a single soul, let alone the entire thread thus far, is enjoying such an F class production. ♥

you should give these low budgets animes a chance ... most of your claims are either opinion or because of them being low budget ... I think that low budget animes are far from perfect but they can be good animes as long as you don't expect them to be on par with high budget animes

Even if it does happen to be low budget, the art style was intentional and not because they couldn't afford "better" art. I like it like this anyways.

yea it all comes down to the watchers opinion and when I meant low budget it wasn't me talking about the art style only I was also talking about fast pace (lack of money for lots of episodes) and "bland" voices (which again is an opinion)

Zeph your idea of "low budget" annoys me. Just because an anime is short doesn't mean it is low budget, in fact, you'll find if you watch closely, that longer anime have terrible quality compared to something in the range of Ufotable or Shaft's work.

That aside, Kill la Kill is a special case. While the artwork in general may seem low quality or low budget, it is merely the style in which they are choosing to use. Look at the action scenes, look at the transitions, look at the first 5 minutes of the effing episode. It was pure beauty, it very closely resembles hand drawn fluidity. While it isn't as modern looking as Fate/Zero or as glistening fabulous as Redline, is it amazingly high quality for the art style being utilized, especially on a series based project.

As for the voice acting, it isn't bland? Idk wtf you're talking about, I find voice acting which you can find in just about every harem out there to be boring, every shounen even. This anime is really going back to action anime/shonen roots. The over-exaggerated male yelling (the discipline chairman) to the high-pitched enthusiastic enemy (the boxer guy), all reminiscent of a time when action/comedy anime was just that, action/comdey anime.

Kill la Kill is really going for an old skool vibe, and I can dig it.
