★ Brief Review
  • Plot Development 「10/10」
    • This is ultimately one of the best series I've watched in terms of plot development Every episode is so rich in regards to the story, and every scene plays an essential role in having the plot develop. In no way does the story slow down or speed up its development in unfavorable amounts, and the overall story itself is can be described with two words: Sentimentally Beautiful.

  • Character Development「10/10」
    • The character development in Rainbow is out of this world in comparison to other anime.. There are overall 7 main characters with their own back-story that gives immense focus on the whole plot, and the way the series connects you to the character's development is very deep and emotional. Despite the fact that there are so many characters however, you are able to connect with them and feel remorse and passion for each of them. I was able to connect with every character, and see how much pain they had to envelop as the series progressed, which makes this anime stand out in terms of plot succession. Honestly, every single element in this series is well mended together, and the character development stands out way more than any other series I have seen to this date.

  • Genre Emphasis「10/10」
    • The genre emphasis on this anime is amazing.. Drama, Sentimental, Seinen, Psychological, Torture, Fuck Up- etc. The whole anime points out the flaws and hideous partials of our reality as we see it today. Not only that, but they mend it so well together with each and every character in the story, that it is as though you are suffering through every outcome and outbreak itself. The genre's are so well mended together, and you can definitely see the dark elements of the story emphasized clearly. Rainbow definitely does itself as a sentimental seinen anime, which should also be apparent as it is by the #1 sentimental anime producer, Madhouse Studios. 12/10.

  • Sceneric Display「9/10」
    • The only reason why I am not giving this a 10/10 or a break over the limit is because this anime is considerably not recent (4 years ago), and that there definitely is better animation out there. However, that does not mean that Rainbow's graphics are flawed at all. The dull coloring to fit the entire sentimentality of the series is well done, the animation is nicely plotted, and the entire scene composition is very fluent. The graphics definitely bring out the story very nicely, which is also obvious since the anime is animated by Madhouse Studios.

  • Music/Sound FX「10/10」
    • Every single voice actor within the series fits each character in the story perfectly, and the lovely background music compositions just set the overall mood of the anime perfectly. I especially love the OP not for the animation, but for the choice of music and on how its lyrics really represents the anime symbolically as a whole.

★ Would I recommend this anime?
  • WATCH IT NOW. I have seen over 200 anime's that definitely comes into par with each other in terms of 'feels', sentimentally, sadness.. But this anime.. is absolutely amazing. It shows such a twisted and gory tale of of how cruel reality truly is with THE BEST plot I have seen to date. I have never felt such emotion with a series before. RECOMMEND.

:P I cross the review limits when I find it exceptional among other anime's, as so far this overcomes several others I've watched. This anime definitely is a hidden gem that I've been looking for ages.

As for the over-exaggeration, I literally meant it hahah. I barely got through half the anime without drawing myself into a state of depression.
Rainbow is one of my favorites, I loved this anime. I was recommend to watch it from a friend last year, overall I would give the anime 9/10
I can't believe I missed out on this. Thanks!
Rainbow is indeed a very awesome anime and one of the top list out there. Everyone should give it a shot.

Gonna be honest, I really didn't like it. Genre-wise it seemed perfect for my preferences, but after watching the first few episodes it's completely written itself off as an overblown melodrama. Everything in this series, and I mean everything, seems to be present only to make the viewer feel sympathy for the main crew, which causes it's downfall right off the bat.
The dystopian society it takes place in seems to want to make it clear that everything is wicked and corrupt whereas the main characters are all shining sunflowers, and the villains are subsequently all so subhuman it feels like watching a bunch of plot-mechanisms walking around on legs. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against the corrupt, nefarious type of villains, but everything about the villains in this series is so poorly written and nonsensical it makes me cringe. The prison guard character is the best example of this, who seems so emotionally attached to the main character it's like he doesn't realize their respective social statuses and somehow feels threatened by the guy. I know it's meant to commemorate his mental strength that psychologically alarms the... you know, it's just silly and makes no sense.

Lets be real. Sure this is supposed to take place shortly after the war but even still the reasons for some of their confinements are so laughable it makes for soap opera-worthy. Not to mention the author even further tries to throw the sympathy card by pulling the "necessary evil" cliche left and right.
Might I add for some reason all of them are locked up in a random prison despite being sentenced for diversely serious crimes, for some reason the prison in question is ridiculously easy to escape, and for some reason a full-scale manhunt is set in place when someone actually escapes (note I've only watched 5 episodes). While it tries to be dark and realistic, it's so detached from reality it makes me sad.

I could expand more on this, but it probably wouldn't be worth much. It only made it worse that I didn't give a shit about any of the characters from the start. Not my cup of tea.
I agree It's also my #1, the story touches your heart..
I've watched this too, and it blew my mind.
It's really an anime that's not too well-known but really, should be.

It's in my top 10 : )
Where may I download the entire season in HD with good subs? Looks really good.

It's preferable to get it on AnimeBytes, but here's an alternative :).

will check this out looks pretty good.
You have to be realistic about the scoring system, you can't go past 10; that's cheating!!
But yeah, this series looks great, and I love the music and plot.
Fixed the 'breaking over the limit' ratings since people find it unfair :P. Though yeah, honestly find this a really great refresher anime to watch due to all the fan service anime's being shown in recent seasons.
