Tibit's Feedback Thread & HF Experience - 3 Years

*Layout by xadamxk

Introduction
• Welcome to my Feedback & HF Story thread. I joined Hackforums on January 23th, 2011. I've seen many changes on the site, been in most of the groups, owned two groups, and been extremely active in the marketplace section. I was going to write this a year ago, but got delayed and put it off, it's 3 years today that I've been on HF so I wanted to rush it out real quick so it's not as detailed as I originally intended. Hope you all enjoy reading my thread anyway.
• Administration & Staff
• Just going to make this part short. Not a whole lot to say here.
• Omniscient: Overall you've built a great site. You are a good administrator, however the only thing I'd say is you do seem to rush judgement sometimes and let emotions play too much of a role in some of your decisions. But it always seems to work itself out in the end. Would be boring if you were a robot. We've had some interesting discussions over the years.

Factor8™: You do seem like a robot, rarely are you seen interacting with the members publicly. You seem to just get on, do work, then log out. You're very professional in the way you handle yourself online from what I've seen even though we've rarely interacted.

Xch4ng3: I've barely interacted with you at all except for one exchange a year ago or so. I don't really have an opinion of you.

Judge Dredd: You're a noob. You did a lot of work for the site for a long time, I remember how you'd spend like 2+ hours a day on the rep abuse section being very careful and investigating it in depth. I've enjoyed our discussions over the last year or so.

Paradoxum: You are a bot for sure. Seems like you never sleep. Overall you've done a lot of work on the site that I've seen. We had some disagreements back when I was in RAT's Crew, but that was settled quickly.

Mentors
• The mentors that put effort into their position are the true volunteers of HF. The ones that do work go without thanks and usually get quite a bit of hate due to moderating the lounge type sections which is usually spammed constantly. Out of all the mentors I've seen on the site I'd have to say the top one was Positive for activity when I originally wrote this, I haven't paid much attention to mentors in the last few months, I saw him closing threads, answering questions, clarifying rules, etc more than any other mentor or any staff member. My overall view of the active mentors is pretty good, however, many of the mentors are pretty inactive, at least publicly, and don't seem to contribute nearly as much as the few active ones, but they are very helpful to the site.
Groups
• Previous Usergroups
• I've been in just about every group on HF so far. Here is the list of groups I have been in at one point or another over the last 3 years.
They are just about in the order of which ones I got in and when:

1. RAT's Crew (First Group)
2. PhilKer Crew
3. Red Lions
4. Black Knights
5. The Wraith
6. The Gamers Crew
7. The Informers
8. Minecrafters
9. Reverence
10. Haunter Gang
11. Eminence
12. Marketers
13. Rhythm (Purchased it & changed it a month or so later into The Corporation)
14. Blackshades
15. Valor
16. Terror
17. Coders
18. The Empire (Started & Own it)
19. Logic
20. The Creed
21. The Corporation (Started, Owned, Sold)
22. Legion

33. The Brotherhood
34. Skill
35. Instinct

Current Usergroups
• I'm going to do a short bit on the current groups, mainly on those I know, going in order of the show groups page.
• The Alliance
•
• It seems to have died down a lot over the last year, however with it's new focus I believe it will have a chance as becoming a good group again with it's current leadership, depends on how actively they lead it. Also to note, the userbar looks to be infringing on Joomla's copyright of their logo, surprised Omni allowed it, must have missed that.

Innovation
•
• Nothing really innovative about it to be honest. When Astonish re-branded it to Innovation, it had promise, heard good things about it, but it looks like that has fallen a it appears Astonish doesn't have interest in doing anything with it other than selling spots, which he was flip flopping on in the first place, haven't really read his "Respawn is back" thread, we shall see how that goes, personally +Pirate getting more say and control in there would be better from what I've seen in the past, he cared a lot about improving the group's image.

Fly By Night
•
• You guys make good graphics. That's what your group is about. Nothing really to say, good job I guess.

Legion
•
• Had lot's of promise early on when Aeon and I sold Anonymous the group. However he hasn't been as active it appears and isn't really actively leading it. While I have a good opinion of Anonymous from our previous encounters for the most part, he doesn't really lead the group well, not because he can't, but because he isn't putting much time into it seems, understandably so, he has a busy life, but he should get someone to run it for him or help him out.

Red Lions
•
• To many this group seems like the best group ever, extremely exclusive and many want into it. I've been in it for over two years now. It has slowly died over the last year or so. However I do like the focus it has currently, I just wish Glassy would more actively lead it to where it would have more members and continue it's focus. Right now it feels like a ghost town.

Instinct
•
• I have no quarrel with the members of this group, although several of them still seem to like attacking Empire calling it a "lounge group" when they have 4-5 lounges of their own lol, overall though it is the best gaming group Hack Forums has had, the members are active and do love to game.

Infamous
•
• Well Pali is gone thankfully, while I think iNviZ is a good guy, his group is got a lot of big egos in it. Not so much anymore, but for a vast majority of the time the members would think they were better than anyone else on the site. Glad to see it's not how most of the members are anymore. Although I've heard a lot of negative things about the charity buy-ins from Infamous members I know.

illuminati
•
• Inactive from what I've heard, surprised people would pay $100-$150/month to be one of it's few members. I don't see any group worth that for membership, the userbar doesn't make you money unless the group advertises a lot more. I do like that they do the $1k giveaways though.

Dynasty
•
• Don't know much about it at all, haven't heard anything from them recently, so no opinion.

The Republic
•
• Lol, I keep thinking of Star wars when I hear about you guys. Haven't heard anything positive about the group, but I do think my group, The Empire, should go have a war with you guys just because of your name.

Void
•
• Was better when it was Logic, funnier when it was The Angels, it was good early on as Void, but last I've heard and when I was in it a couple months ago, it looks pretty dead. I enjoyed it when it was Logic though.

The Empire
•
• I started it over a year ago and plan to keep it going for quite a bit longer. It's now one of the oldest groups on HF as almost all the rest have changed or been sold. We are the most active group by far. With about 170,000 posts in total, while averaging ~40 members for the first 6 months and now ~70 members over the last 6-8 months, many say it's just lounges, however there are over 55,000-60,000 posts in the group that are completely unrelated to the lounges. They are debates, discussions, contests, tutorials, etc. Due to a MyBB error with the post counter it only shows 123,000 posts, but once Omni does a recount it will show all the extra 49,000+ posts that are currently uncounted. I'll say more about my group later on.

143
•
• Was great early on, died out for a long period of time, now is being brought back by Eternal, he's doing good work.

Complexity
•
• Judge Dredd's group of noobs. Needs a bit more organization and stricter leadership in my opinion.

The Brotherhood
•
• Liked Connected spy crew that caught multi-accounters, but since that was stopped it seems like there is not much going on in that group anymore. The group seems to be at a standstill at the moment. Hopefully that changes, recently Cryptic bought up his partner's share of the group, so let's see if he makes any changes soon.

MRT Trainees
• Start already, it's been awhile!

Feedback Over Site Related Issues
• I am only active in a few sections of Hack Forums now, mainly marketplace and groups, so I will only focus on the sections I pay attention to.
• Groups
• They are a huge part of Hack Forums. They helps build up the site a lot. It gives people more of a sense of community. It helps feed competition among members, activity around the site, etc. Hack Forums is like a high school. Groups are the teams and clubs, they play a big role in getting members together for a common goal and to just hang out. They help create bonds and friendships. I have heard it many times in Empire alone on how many friendships were made there. I have made several good friends directly through The Empire and other groups. They are a very important part of Hack Forums. I highly encourage everyone to get involved with a group. It is worth it.

Marketplace
• Extremely active and lot's of money is exchanged there very often. Many people really underestimate the amount of money that goes through Hackforums. I have seen that first hand. I've sold many products here on HF. I've learned the ins and outs of the marketplace. If you want to be successful there you have to see it for what it is, a bunch of 12-16yr olds with about $50-$100 looking to be l33t hackers. That's the average budget and goal of the average HF buyer. Remember your target audience well, market to them. They like things that don't take a lot of knowledge to operate, can do something cool, costs less than $100, and looks sexy. That is why RAT's, Booters, Keyloggers, etc do really well here.

However, the biggest issue I have with the marketplace, it is pretty out of control, which is good but also bad at the same time. I don't understand the logic of some of it either, for example, if a bunch of threads are made in the marketplace discussions section causing drama about a product, their sales actually go up. When there was drama with Blackshades, sales went up, when there was drama with The Empire, our sales spiked. I guess any publicity is good publicity here it seems. I do wish that the Marketplace Discussions section was more heavily moderated though. There is a lot of spam, flame, trash, etc in that section. The rules are not really defined well there when it comes to community alerts and what is allowed in the section. Hopefully Omni will look more into that.

Rep Abuse Section
• It is no longer a section, however I believe it should be. It only takes up more time for Omni to have to handle PM's about it when that could bring the PM's about it down and solve more of it. Clearly the reputation system update is not coming anytime soon, it's been on the list for awhile, but it not a priority. This would take a few minutes to set back up and would reduce the amount of time Omni has to handle the issue which will make more free time for other projects, every bit counts.

Mobile App
• There are several companies that will do this for a relatively cheap price. If Omni made a fund for it where people could donate $XX to the fund and would get an award or something like that it'd easily cover all the costs related to it. A mobile app would increase activity. The site is not very mobile compatible, with mobile rising big time it is a must for any site. It's been on the list for a long time and it is very easily resolved.

Account Security
• 2-factor Auth has been discussed multiple times (Recommendation), it would be good to see that finally implemented. I used to have my HF account attached to a Yahoo Email, Yahoo's support only needed my name and birthday to switch my account's control to someone else. So it was jacked. 2 factor auth would have prevented that. Even Omni's account was stolen a little while ago through something very similar. Luckily not much damage was done, but they could have easily done a lot more than a couple rep fucks, posts, and junks as they had control for a couple hours. Omni can easily put more security on his account personally and probably has done so now, but the rest of us are out of luck. This would also help prevent scams as people would be unable to steal accounts so easily. It would be good to see this feature finished soon.

My Story
• Why I Joined HF
• I mainly joined because I was competing in a high school cyber security competition known as US Cyber Patriot. Hackforums had some good information on it that helped out. Shortly after joining I got interested in joining The RAT's Crew. So I got ten posts, PM'd Zach, he asked me a few questions and I bullshitted my way into the group. I ended up becoming really active and staying on Hackforums.

The Empire

• I was going to buy one in the summer of 2011 called The Mafia, but Omni didn't like the name choice at that point so I went back and forth with some friends about some other names until some personal issues came up and I left HF for awhile. When I got back I decided to just pay off the fee for RAT's Crew to become a group, but while I was traveling somethings happened between Zach and Omni and the group was closed. Omni would not allow anyone to create a group call The RAT's Crew anymore.

So finally back in August 2012, several groups approached me asking for help paying them off, The Brotherhood (not the current one, different one by some Alliance members), The Creed, The Empire, and someone else that I can't remember at this time. Most of them needed almost the entire amount, however The Empire had some of the money already and was actually planned out so I went with that one. Sadly two of the original leaders had not been upfront with how they got the money, tried getting me kicked by Omni, and kicked half the group and made up a bunch of new rules that were not approved by the rest of us. So I removed them and refunded the amounts they put into the group.

It is the reason I am still on hackforums right now. It keeps me interested. I enjoy the discussions and debates, the members, etc. The Empire has made quite an impact on hackforums for sure. It is one of the longest standing groups now. It is the most active by far. It's members have produced many tutorials, guides, stickies, products, and some people who started out in The Empire as their first group have gone on to own their own group or lead one. Many friendships have been formed within the group that are now friendships outside of Hackforums. I can not stress enough how important groups are on Hackforums, those that I've seen be an active part of The Empire have benefited through it. I still see people say groups are pointless, only those who have never been in one or really been apart of one would say that.

The Empire will continue for the foreseeable future. If I am unable to lead it later on, I do have a couple people that can take over and continue it, I plan on doing that rather than selling it until those that I would trust it to are finished with Hackforums as well. I haven't been all that active over the last few months, but I am getting more active now and intend to continue to improve The Empire. There will be several changes within the group soon along with a round of Recruitment this week.

The Corporation

• About a year ago, Aeon ‹3 and I purchased Rhythm from
Positive. We let it stay Rhythm for about a month later. We then changed it into The Corporation. Which was going to be a group focused on marketing and products. Our first recruitment was a video competition which was pretty popular and had some good entries, we later invited members we felt were active marketers and had good products. Due to both of us being busy we were unable to lead both The Empire and The Corporation. So we sold The Corporation a couple months later to Anonymous and Vinnie to become Legion.

My Experience in the Marketplace

My Donations
• I've been asked many times how much I've donated to Hackforums in general. Most people think I just hoard all the money I get, when that is not true at all. I've given away quite a bit over the three years I've been here. I was asked on Ask FM about 4 months ago this question and here was my response: "A quick check of what I've sent him via PayPal comes out to be: $12,072.84 since May of 2011, if the report feature showed all the payments. I've sent him quite a bit of LR and a bitcoin as well, which would come out to be around $14,000, give or take a few hundred. If I counted what my 3 HF business partners have donated in total it would add nearly another $9,500-$10,000. I've also given away nearly $6,500 on HF (Contests, items, gifts, pranks, awards, handouts, etc)." Since then I've bought a few more stickies, done a few more giveaways, and helped some members who needed money. In total I've given over $23,000 to Omniscient and HF members since I joined Hackforums. This does not count purchasing products from the HF marketplace or paying money to expenses or partners, it just counts HF donations, stickies, contests, giveaways, awards, etc.

My Rep Fucks
• There has been several instances where I've been involved in a public drama. One of the more popular ones that I've been asked about more was when I was rep fucked 3 times in a night and had my account locked in a very unique way. To explain what happened I'm going to use my HF News interview about the incident. To note, this interview is about a year old, the only relevant information in it is about the incident.
• xadamxk: For the 133rd Edition of the Hack Forum's New's, we have found a survivor of the recent catastrophe! Do you have any shoutouts before we get to the bottom of this story?
Tibit: Sure, Aeon ‹3 my partner in crime, KyleWTF, Judge Dredd, and you my leading noobs, along with every member of The Empire and 143.

xadamxk: So many noobs! But to the point, everyone was dumbfounded when they had discovered you had been Rep Fucked earlier this week. Would you mind shining some light on this event?
Tibit: Well I wasn't just rep fucked or else it wouldn't really have mattered. I was in class during most of the events of that day and in IRC with root members and many other HF members. Shortly after I got home later in the evening I noticed I couldn't post for some reason. When I went to view my UserCP I saw that I had been rep fucked as well and my signature permanently removed as well as posting privileges permanently removed. I sent Omni a message right away asking what had happened. As soon as I PM'd him he had a PM titled "Who?" and told me the following:

"You think I'm gonna put up with that shit? You dun goofed. I'm gonna end your HF career. You fucking pissed me off good now."

I sent him a reply asking what he was referring to and wondering what was going on. He took awhile to reply as he was closing and banning accounts like crazy along with writing up a thread about the situation with root. He then put a -10 on me stating that anyone who rep'd me would be rep fucked as well then rep fucked me again.

Once I had talked with Omni more to find out what he was talking about he removed the limitations on my account and the -10. The whole situation happened so fast when he got on that he acted quick on many of his actions before knowing the full situation.

xadamxk: Sounds like quite a mess. Many were surprised to see the craziness that unfolded that day. What do you think will come of root now that everyone involved was banned?
Tibit: I was quite a day full of interesting events. I personally think root will go back to what they were before. They've always been a group of people who use IRC heavily. They were not dependent on HF, their sub-forum showed that. They were more active in the public sections than their own sub-forum, but most active in their IRC. Many of them are very talented individuals. I've enjoyed talking with a few of them and being in their IRC a few times. They may make new accounts and still visit or they may just move on from Hackforums, only they can decide what they do in the future.

The one that should be worried is Hawkode as he paid for ownership of root shortly before the chaos began, as soon as the payment cleared they went to work getting the group in trouble while Hawkode slept. Staff intervened then Omni deleted the group and even threatened to close Hawkode's account believing the joke that Castle Bravo posted about Who? owning it with Hawkode as partners. At the time of this interview Hawkode still doesn't have a group and Omni hasn't stated publicly anything other than the group is gone for good. I believe Omni will give him a group as he already made the payments, but I'm not completely sure, I'm sure we'll find out soon.

xadamxk: Things don't seem to be going well for anyone involved. Hopefully Omni understands Hawkode's dilemma and grants him a group as he paid for it. Has Omni talked to you about any of this since or apologized?
Tibit: I order stickies quite often for many things relating to projects, sales, my group, contests, giveaways, etc. I've got a few new products being released on other sites at the moment, unsure if HF would be a good marketplace for them or not, may release 1-2 more on HF this month. For the Empire I plan on having the Userbar and Forum Icon changed this week along with working on continuing the momentum within the group to continue expanding what we do on the site.

xadamxk: You certainly keep yourself busy it seems. With all these projects and products being sold, what do you do with all the money made?
Tibit: I am always busy as you and those who talk with me know. I have an extremely busy personal and work life, HF is more of a hobby. Every cent I make on HF goes back to the community in form of donations, giveaways, contests, handouts, etc or to be reinvested in marketing or enhancing each product.

xadamxk: You always seem to give back your fair share to the forums. And you have been a member for years, are you planning on a feedback thread anytime soon? Or do you plan on waiting until a specific moment to release one?
Tibit: As you've seen my feedback thread is under development in The Empire sub-forum. I plan on releasing it this weekend, possibly before this interview is on the news, if not then sometime early in the week. Hopefully before my birthday on the 17th of this month.

xadamxk: Since I have to write the Tech News as well, I will be cutting this interview short. Thank you for the letting me give this interview, and I hope you have a Happy Birthday Tibit. Before we end this, do you have any final comments you would like to tell the Hack Forums community?
Tibit: Nope, that should cover it until my feedback thread is finished. Have a nice evening mate.
• As seen on [3/10/13] - HF News.

• Also, after the rep fuck here is a picture from the rep Omni left on me:
Conclusion
• Thank you for reading this to whoever does. It was really long, but a lot happens in three years. I'm glad I came across hackforums when I did. I plan on being here for quite awhile longer running The Empire and The Empire product line. I'd also like to leave some quotes that I think every member should know.

"A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him."
"Never explain. Your friends do not need it and your enemies will not believe you anyway."
"Never sink to your enemy's level. Just smile and nod, it drives them insane."

Now to end off with some shoutouts to members who have stood out to me in the last three years, there are many more, but I didn't want to make this list pages long.
• Shoutouts
• xadamxk: You moved your name up here when formatting so might as well leave it there even though it was alphabetized! I'm glad I didn't ignore your PM when you were applying for The Empire over a year ago. We have talked often every day since. You are a great friend, not just on HF, but offsite even more so. Barely any of our conversations even involve HF anymore. You are easily one of the few I trust completely.

#Thunder: Stop changing your name so much Marriland. You're a good noob.

1n9i9c7om: Random number/letter guy. Even though your name is not so random at all. You're a good noob, thank you a lot for your help with several Empire projects such as the moderation panel and some threads.

Aeon ‹3: You were a good business partner up until the last few months of our partnership, the whole lying about marine thing didn't really bother me that much, even though that is really disrespectful to real marines, the part that bothered me the most and ended the partnership is you would take a few weeks or a couple months off at a time for a "mission" and would cause the products to be less reliable, kinda glad you did, because that's how mad and I ended up partnering up.

Anonymous: We've had a few good convo's, but you always seem busy or uptight, slow down, relax, and enjoy everything more, or you'll get really bored of HF much quicker if you haven't already.

Bugga: I hope we never argue, you really tore into a certain someone when we were all in a skype call, no one even got a word in, just remind me never to fight with you lol, glad you're a friend not a foe.

Chief.: We were pretty good friends for a long time, we lost touch over the summer, but glad we are back to being friends again. Hope you're ready to lead The Empire again.

Cody: I'm glad you're no longer running 143, it has a chance now. At first I though highly of you, until I got to know you.

Daisy: One of the nicest members here. We haven't talked much recently, wish you got on HF more. 143 was great when you were active.

Emylbus: Thank you for HFES, very helpful.

Eternal.: One of the few I trust. Glad we are friends, even though you love cats and cry every Sunday on the phone.

Evangelist: You will never win a debate against me. The day you realize that you'll be much happier. Lol, glad you are apart of The Empire, we do need to debate more often though.

Existence: The first noob I became friends with here. You're a master RAT'er.

Froggy: You need to get active again noob! You don't post nearly as much as you used to.

Glassy: You're a good, organized person, however lately you seem to have disappeared. Hopefully you'll be active again soon and build up Red Lions.

Kasberg: Was fun hanging out with you at DEFCON this year, surprised we had several irl friends in common and live near each other but didn't meet until then. I will beat you in golf one day.

KillaMuvz: I wish you'd come back. You were a great member and a good noob when in The RAT's Crew. Our group of you, me, Existence, Zeus, and Baked was fun while it lasted.

KyleWTF: You've seemed to change a lot lately, you take things a bit too seriously and care too much about the opinions of others, once you stop and relax you'll have a lot more fun. Good luck with The Republic.

mad: My best business partner on HF and a good noob that I trust. We've done a lot of deals with each other and run a couple very successful product lines. Hopefully that continues for a long time. And don't bomb me noob.

Nyonic: Go back to your old name, it was better!

Operate: Good luck beating me in rank in ROTC/CAP. You better hurry if you want to do so.

Positive: You're a good noob and one of the most active mentors, or at least you were, I haven't paid much attention to mentors lately. Glad you're doing well, we need to chat more often.

Qwazz: The RAT's Crew was much better when you were a leader, things would have gone differently had you stayed a leader.

Sandshrew/Frawshy: Lol, I still remember that huge scam report I had on you for The Angels Debacle, you have a good heart, but you got in way too deep and lost control, glad you actually stayed and resolved it all.

Skype: You're a great noob, need to bully you more often.

Tastylicous: You're a good nazi noob. Go bully Freddy more and text more.

Teavana/Mint.: Your new name sucks. Also Starbucks isn't that good noob!

Vandal: You are a good noob, hopefully you stay active. You've been in Empire for over a year and glad that you have, sloth.

Vinnie: Most of our fights and drama were completely pointless, it was from both of us assuming shit about the other. We always listened to what others told us about the other instead of actually talking, and when we did everything was quickly resolved. Glad that's past us.

vitafortis: You're a good friend noob and pretty smart, except for your political views and NRA worship, I still haven't burned those NRA stuff you mailed me lol.

Wallet: Glad to see it was just a mistake that you were closed. For that one report you made you are now a good noob.

Wolves: Haven't talked to you in a long time. Wish you were more active noob!

xerotic: Everything Zeus said about you was right, you know that. Can't stand you personally from the time in RAT's Crew, especially what you did to the members with Smurfy. Glad you were removed from Staff.

Zanelot: Sucks that you were closed. Yes, you did cause a lot of drama and harass members a little too far sometimes, but you still did some good over the last year and were a good noob for the most part.

Zeus: The one that led The RAT's Crew a couple years ago. Wish you were more active. You were a great part of our group, wish the Mafia plan worked out.
Thanks again Adam for the help making the thread. Finally finished.

This was a very nicely written thread Tibit. You wanted it to be more detailed than it already is? Noob!

• Was better when it was Logic, funnier when it was The Angels, it was good early on as Void, but last I've heard and when I was in it a couple months ago, it looks pretty dead. I enjoyed it when it was Logic though.

I can definitely agree. My best times on HF were when Logic was around.
Congrats on the three years. I dislike some people you like, but well, c'est la vie!

OH MY GOD!!! You have never... whatever I give up.

Good feedback noob, I spent like 22.5 minutes reading it, and you are way too nice, it needs more asshole.
You texted me about this thread while I was getting labs done. Looking at this thread, it was quite good. I enjoyed reading it too. In my opinion, the layout of the thread made it more eye catching as well.

Aside from the above text in this reply, why must I get the most generic part? Kidding.

Maybe if you stopped changing your name it would have been better, go back to your old name :P
