Why are there no modules in the compat-drivers folder?
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ tar -xzf compat-drivers-3.9-rc4-2-s.tar.gz
pi@raspberrypi ~ $ cd compat-drivers-3.9-rc4-2-s/
pi@raspberrypi ~/compat-drivers-3.9-rc4-2-s $ ./scripts/driver-select atheros

Looks like you are missing the Wi-Fi Driver. Use an Ethernet Cable to get internet, then there should be an update. Update it, then restart your PC. Should work.

I need to have modules in that folder. Do you see the error. I dont know how to move modules? Is it possible on the RPi? TY.

Hmmm never used RPI looks like the module for Ubuntu for missing Wi-Fi Driver, sorry for the inconvenience.

is it that hard to just load a module? i dont know what a module is exactly, other than it being some sort of extenstion of the operating system and it needs to be loaded. Even if i downloaded the kernel then i wouldnt know what to do with it once i downloaded it, being that im very new to linux

Would not know how hard it would be to load modules on RPI. If you have Ubuntu problems ask away :). Sorry i do not know anything about RPI.

if it were ubuntu and you were looking at the kernel source page like this one
https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/tree/rpi-3.6.y
how would you go about getting the kernel headers in a certain folder so your device driver can use it? Ty

I would download it using the Terminal, then it would decompress it.
Also if you would like to get assistance on this further for strictly RPI, post it in the Linux section --> https://hackforums.net/forumdisplay.php?fid=85.
