Error while increasing hdd

I have windows 8.1 on VirtualBox with 25 gb HDD but i want to increase 50 gb but when i use the
VBoxManage modifyhd <your filename> --resize 50000
but i get an error
"Progress state: VBOX_E_NOT_SUPPORTED VBoxManage: error: Resize hard disk operation for this format is not implemented yet!"

How i can increase?
There are couple types of HDD you can choose from. And not all support growth. Check VB website for more details.

This.
The error message means the type of HDD file you picked for your VM can't be expended yet. What type of HDD file did you pick ?
