I like anime that has a badass protagonist, so I thought why not make a list of them, and perhaps have HF members to help add on the list? Perhaps I will find some anime that has this specific element that I like that I haven't watched.

Badass as in those protagonist that are rather intelligent, and are usually very cool and powerful.

-Code Geass : Lelouch (Simply smart, messes with the world)
-Kuroshitsuji : Sebastian (OP Demon that doesn't lose)
-Hellsing : Alucard (OP Vampire that doesn't lose)
-Death Note : Light Yagami (Simply smart, messes with the world)
-Sword Art Online : Kirito (Can Solo bosses and players)
-Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei : Shiba Tatsuya (Seems to be very good at fighting, and smart too)
-No Game No Life : Sora (God of games, seeks power)
-Log Horizon : Shiroe (Very good strategist, very smart)
-Hunter x Hunter : Killua (Very OP, cool assassinations moves and nen abilities)
-One Outs : Tokuchi (Doesn't lose at all in gambling, very smart)
-Darker Than Black : Hei (Plays a student, hides his identity as some assassin)
-The World God Only Knows : Keima (Master in chasing girls, playing games. Doesn't listen in class and still scores 100%)

Hunter x hunter : Kuroro Lucifuru (smart, induvidualistic & magnetic; also boss of the ghost squad) he's not the #1 protagoniste but .... he's such a badass

I've read volume one of the light novel, and I can tell you that he is actually badass.
It'll be perfectly shown when they're playing the big chess game. (It's pretty much the end climax of the first volume, so it might take a few episodes until the anime reaches that point. I'd guess around episode 6 or something.)

Personally wouldn't count Keima or Shiroe. Neither really warrant a "badass" title, but that's just my opinion. Anyway;

Asuka - Evangelion
Kiritsugu - Fate/Zero
Balalaika - Black Lagoon (so as not to list every major Black Lagoon character. She's undeniably the most badass)

Kino - Kino's Journey

Izaya - Durarara
Utena - Revolutionary Girl Utena
Johan Liebert - Monster
Makishima Shougo - Psycho Pass
