How to Speed Test your Server | User Generated Result List

How to speed test a server!

Tonight, I'm going to type up a short guide on how to run a speed test from a VPS. When I first got started on system administration, I was bamboozled on how to do this, so I think it would be great to teach all you new Linux users out there the simplest way to get a fairly accurate representation of your VPSs speed.

1 Download the script to use SpeedTest.net

Code
wget -O speedtest-cli https://raw.github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli/master/speedtest_cli.py

Picture for if you like to view things (Click to View)

What this does (Click to View)

2 Change the permissions of the script to make it readable

Code
chmod +x speedtest-cli

Picture for if you like to view things (Click to View)

What this does (Click to View)

3 Run the script.

Code
python speedtest-cli --share

Picture for if you like to view things (Click to View)

What this does (Click to View)

That was posted a long time ago but it's nice to see it back as I am sure there are plenty of people who didn't saw or nor does know it exists xD

Oh. I wasn't aware of that. But I'm willing to bet that the other person didn't have the idea of keeping a publicly updated list of results from different hosting providers. 😝

Good guide, although it's all over the internet.

Here's a pic of one of my boxes.

Thanks for the contributions. Seems like we both love our OVH.

I'm a bit late in asking this, but what kind of package is this hosted on, and what data-center is it in?

Going to be getting access to servers from a few different providers later in the day and I'll provide a nice boost in results on the main thread.

There are many guides out there like this, but thx anyways.
Mine isn't bad for A Russian server:

This is because I was uploading to the server it was better

[img]http://www.speedtest.net/result/3910706580.png[/img]
This is the original speed before I started uploading

Where in Russia is the datacenter located?
